NIL Funding

It seems that NIL opening the way for boosters to gain controlling interests in athletics. I don’t think it is right. Why can’t the money being earned in TV contracts, conference championships and the playoff be sent back to the schools. Some type of distribution that allows the school to distribute NIL money and move away from collectives and student-athletes focusing on school and sports and whatever social life possible.
By rules set by governing body, cap NIL money by a formula that favors those who play, maintain eligibility and number of years in that school’s program.
Continue to have booster programs. All monies go through school.
Lots of “what about….” and issues I haven’t considered, but the key principles - use football money earned by these players to pay them, return control of money to school and cap earnings - same formula used by every member.

Great idea, but ten years too late

Greedy NCAA refused to do any profit sharing for the commodities (athletes-students) from television contracts back when Ed or an on questioned his uncompensated likeness on EA sports' NCAA basketball.
So here we are twenty years later...NIL, portal etc.

Generally, I agree about the NCAA being too late.
They did a 180 instead of modifying the situation. They were too strict; now they are far too soft.
There was a happty medium that could have been reached; but "no"!
They wanted to keep the facade of "student-athlete" 1st and (MONEY) profit for schools 1st and foremost. This is the begining of the end of it the way we knew it. Can't blame anybody; but those who had a chance to start sharing sooner. And those who had a chance not to bust-blz about something like selling a pair of sneakers, or selling a replica jersey that you(the player) received as a gift(obviously if you sell it; it's because you need the money dumb dumbs). The players(many of them) have been in need of the money; the opportunity was there to have done it in a more controlled way. But, the forces who brought this onslaught on only saw "loopholes"! Wonder how they measure those loopholes versus what we are seeing now?

All of the money from television contracts should be used to pay players salaries and boosters should be responsible for coaches salaries. Of course, the higher tuition at Stanford or duke compared to state universities would lead to a much greater take of TV money for the higher tuition universities.

Great, if you like socialism.

I go to work. My paycheck goes to the government. The government decides how much money to pay me.
I agree with your point that there needs to be some regulation on NIL. I just don't think funneling money through the school is the way to do it.
And, now the problems is collectives.
It is one thing for a guy to go sign a contract with Dr. Pepper and he and the company agree on the payment. But, with collectives it is "come to our school and we will pay you X dollars. We'll figure out what you have to do later, wink, wink."

I abhor socialism. Notice I didn’t say put $ in men’s bball or any other sport. Dang it. Football national champions in 2024 are adding four more games to schedule. Every team right now “banged up”. These guys are going to have life-long consequences to playing this game. Share the billions of dollars.
