BTW, 'Bama has outscored it's toughest opponents by 6.8 points this year. Clemson has outscored it's toughest opponents by 18.7 points. This even though Dabo takes out his starters in the 4th quarter. Who do you think is more prepared for this game? GooooooTigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Muschamp must feel surrounded. Trying to recruit against Dabo and Smart’s teams closest to him. And now good recruiters in Pruitt and Mullen in division. Not to mention Taggart and Richt in FL. Stuck with trying to recruit 2-3* guys and coach them up against 4-5* guys. Tough way to succeed.

the implication there is that Taggart isn't a good hire. I don't necessarily disgaree - I'm just unsure, but I wish David would have expounded on that. Anyone else care to?
For a minute I just wondered if he meant that FSU's coaching change itself - the mere fact that they had to make an new hire, would, in and of itself, put FSU behind a bit since more or less any change would do that. But the way it's worded seems to indicate otherwise, he chronicles the departure of Jimbo in the previous paragraph, and then says "FSU moved quickly, hiring Taggart, putting the Florida State program FURTHER behind Clemson."
Hmmm . . .

Two thoughts:
History almost always shows a falloff from the previous when the HC leaves because there is assistant coach upheaval, loss of continuity with players, different coaching style and uncertainty in recruiting for a year or so. Taggart brings ties to Florida, so that's a big plus. Time will tell how soon Taggart can overcome these and other challenges, but most often the first year is very difficult.
DH's post nailed a secret to the Tiger's success, and that is coaching continuity from the HC to all assistants. There are exceptions to losses of a DC or OC like Bama. We are blessed at Clemson in so many ways. We need to show that appreciation. Go Tigers.

Taggart is risky for FSU. He’s proven he can turaround bad teams to be decent teams. What he hasn’t shown is that he can sustain a top program over several years and keep them on top. Lost his best recruiter in Cristobal and now is going head to head against Richt and Mullen recruiting in FL.
