Next season, what do yall think about playing two QBs?

Nov 4, 2013, 12:00 AM

Now, I know Slurrier loves to do this and at times, I almost think it is brilliant. Especially when an opposing team has to prepare for both a mobile QB and one that prefers to stay in the pocket and pick the secondary apart.

We will have both Kelly and Stoudt next year who, I can imagine, will both be pushing for playing time. Do any of you think we might go the route of splitting time between the two QBs throughout the season, or do you think we will stick with a clear cut #1.

I've got the feeling if there isn't enough time share, we're going to see either Stoudt or Kelly transfer. I would hope we could avoid this and instead, use dual QBs to our advantage.

Watson needs a RS year to pack on a few pounds, learn the playbook and just get accustomed to college life. That's why I'm not really considering him in the discussion. What do you guys think?

Put them both in at the same time...

Then the D doesn't know who's getting the ball hiked too....then if one is getting pressured the other can go the opposite direction get a backwards pass deep and then throw and deep ball to Peake.

Boom we are national champs!

Think if Kelly doesnt win the job

Nov 4, 2013, 12:07 AM

He will stay if stoudt doesn't he might leave. Hope he doesn't because that might mean no RS for Watson for depth purposes.

Stoudt won't leave, he's a senior next year.***

Sounds good, Stoudt better passer, Kelly better runner,

Nov 4, 2013, 12:10 AM

Watson rs, barring injuries of course!

No talk of Schuesller? In the limited action he's seen,he's

Nov 4, 2013, 7:50 AM

looked as good as any QB with very limited time knowing the playbook.with that being said,i think
Stoudt starts with Kelly taking the job early on mainly because of his elusiness and athletic ability. He's a lot like C.Shaw with his feet.

I don't see either Stoudt or Kelly riding the bench.

Nov 4, 2013, 12:22 AM

I think Stoudt will be the starter, but Kelly will come in for a change of pace and in certain situations.

That's nothing but guesswork, but it's all I've got.

Opposed!
Give both Stoudt and Kelly equal time with
the starting offense during spring practice,so that both are ready, but by season opener you need to have one established as the starter.
I'm not opposed to putting both in for a particular play from time to time, but as far as splitting time,no.
You start with one,and have the other readily available if the starter is injuried, gets the flu ,or is just having a bad hair day.

Logical! sounds right barring injuries!***

it doesn't appear that Coach Swinney is going to pull a QB

Nov 4, 2013, 7:45 AM [ in reply to Re: Next season, what do yall think about playing two QBs? ]

because of a "bad hair day". If he was, he would have done it before with both Parker and (a couple of series at least) Boyd.

next year both of our top 2 guys have quite different styles

Nov 4, 2013, 7:42 AM

so maybe not next year. The years after that get interesting because, from what I've seen, Kelly and Watson are very similar. I believe that bodes well for us in case of injury or ineffectiveness (oh wait, forget that part). Both have similar styles and both are quite talented so the QB battles will only get more interesting from here on....for a while.

If it works

Nov 4, 2013, 10:29 AM

More power to them but honestly I think when teams try to run that it winds up backfiring bringing a guy in who hasn't took a snap in 15 plays then is brought in a big time situation I think if you bring them in leave them in for more than 1 play

Heckuva innovation

Nov 4, 2013, 11:20 AM

to have two qb's on the field. Heisman would be proud, maybe rolls over in grave and winks.
