Not really working? Last year's women's tournament was by far the most watched in history. The championship game was the most watched women's basketball game ever by nearly 5 million average viewers. Marketing it is absolutely working.
And far more people have been watching women's college basketball compared to college baseball. College baseball has next to no viewership until the postseason and even then it almost never cracks 2M average viewers.

Now that I have finally found a way to watch baseball-and softball as well-I will be watching a ton more. I even got to see some of our lacrosse team in action this past weekend. I am thinking that is why women's basketball has seen a jump in numbers more than anything. Make everything else extremely difficult to find. And I'm not even railing on women's basketball. My opinion is that it is too top heavy still and most games are blow outs. Doesn't hold my interest.

Women's basketball has been easier to find because there's been more interest in watching it, not the other way around. Disney is not an altruistic venture. It makes decisions based on what is projected to generate it the most money. If baseball or softball were expected to generate more money for the business they'd be pushing them over women's basketball.

Disney is not an altruistic venture. It makes decisions based on what is projected to generate it the most money.
Let's just take this part of your statement and dwell on it.
**Disney ONLY pushes what it pushes because what it pushes makes money.** (I paraphrase)
So you're telling me that moviegoers are asking for more same-sex relationships to be included in movies targeting the ages 4-11 market?
Disney is remaking movies to include more diversity (gender and race) because audiences are clamoring for it?
The NBA trumpets "Black Lives Matter" and the NFL paints "End Racism" on the end lines because those things increase profits?
The WNBA is advertised at every opportunity by ESPN because it's a money-making venture? The women's league is a DRAIN on NBA profits just like NCAAW basketball is a drain on the athletic department budget at over 300 institutions, and I'd say every institution except maybe USC, LSU, UConn and Iowa (until Caitlin graduates).
There's an agenda that goes deeper than capitalism, and the sooner you see it, the better.

Disney is making decisions that make money, yes. You not liking that or not understanding how that appeals to the markets that consume their products is irrelevant. They're not doing it because they want to be "woke". Disney, more than maybe any other company involved in the entertainment industry, is about making and protecting their money.

It's not college baseball.
WBB is being propped up to make it appear that more people care. Both college and professional levels are painful to watch and outside of a few teams have no fan support.

I'm sorry, do you think Disney is pushing WBB because of some agenda? They're pushing it because their market research says it's going to make them more money because it has more interest. If their market research said baseball would make them more money that's what they'd push. You're hilariously naive if you think for a second their decisions are not made based on what's going to make them the most money.

some sort of $10m annual subsidy. And sports franchises are really really difficult to figure out the funding. Many pro franchises, even NFL teams, 'lose' money on an annual basis and it's covered by the ownership group because they they believe the value of the franchises rise and therefore will capture the upside on the sale of the team.
That is why many fans want owners who will 'invest' in the franchise they are fans of.
But honestly, I can't come up with any recent factual information about NBA subsidies of the WNBA. But yes, the NBA is a partial owner of the league, and supports them in various ways.

Disney pushes the WNBA even less than they push College Baseball so I'm not sure what your point is.
The only politics Disney cares about is whatever allows them the most power to protect their IP. It's actually hilarious that you think they'd prioritize being "woke" or whatever ######## you want to call it over making money.

I guess you would have to compare what the ratings would be if they were both on the same channel. How many bars just keep ESPN on regardless of what’s on? I would guess that would be the bulk of the viewership. Just a guess though, I don’t have any facts nor do I care to look for them 😂

they aren't because it isn't beneficial. But women's college basketball has proved some viability, and they are on the same channel as men's from time to time (though not as much).
I believe that women's college basketball have had 2 of the 5 or 6 highest rated college basketball regular season games on tv overall this year. If baseball had that pull, they'd be put on more broadly available channels more often.
Here are all the numbers thru mid-Feb:

I certainly don't. I mean iof Clemson women were in the tourney, I'd keep up. But after coaching Boys basketball for many years, watching the girls play was painful. I'd have to endure the girls game before the boys played . . .painful in the stands. True, it was highschool, but it still looks about the same to me.

because ESPN new 8-year deal includes baseball along with several other sports.
In addition, regular-season games are contracted through each conference and appear on a variety of different networks including several school- and conference-specific networks (e.g., Big Ten Network, SEC Network, BYU TV, Pac-12 Network, and Longhorn Network).
Post-season ESPN will continue to broadcast the College World Series.

driver in the increase in spending. In this article it says the NCAA almost sold the WBB separately by the NCAA, but they thought they'd lose some visibility in those being dropped from programming. Haven't seen baseball parsed out at all.
From it: On Thursday, the NCAA and ESPN announced an eight-year, $920 million extension to their current media rights package of 40 NCAA championships, including the ever-growing women’s March Madness tournament.
The deal, which will begin on Sept. 1, will pay out an average of $115 million per year, with women’s March Madness valued at $65 million of that number, NCAA President Charlie Baker tells Front Office Sports.

to ESPN on the backs of the success of WBB's rise. It equates to approx $65m of the $115m annual deal that was announced in January. That's according to the NCAA president.
So, its ratings on ESPN is equating to dollars for ESPN.
