Obviously KB's job to lose. Nothing new here. It's too early for that.

Jeff Scott comparing his 2.5 year old daughter's arm to TL. If she can already throw it like TL does, she will be our new quarterback in 16ish years. Probably be the first woman to win a Heisman.

You would've thought that TL would know not to touch hot plates by now too! His parents must have been super-protective.

Sometimes he makes the play, sometimes he gets intercepted.
Wasn't this exactly what DW4 was? No risk no reward. TL sounds like the guy that can make the plays. So what if he makes a couple mistakes. Name 1 QB that doesnt

Ask any 2016 Heisman voter and they'd have told you Lamar Jackson, while adjusting their blindfolds.

That is very true, DW wasn't afraid to risk a INT and it wouldn't bother him, next drive he came back and made plays!!! I hope TL can be that type of talent DW was I know that's asking a lot but that's what happens when your marked as qb prospect of a the decade. Love to see how things progress Go Tigers!!!

More excited about this competition than when Stout, Watson, & Kelly were competing to be the signal caller. It will all shake out after a few games in the season. Until then, these updates are going to be repetitive.

Pretty much. Not going to hear anything that you didn’t read last spring. Just change two names, tl and cb.
You can tell where it’s going. Kb has best command of the offense... blah blah. What I would like to know is what offense is it? The one from 15 and 16 that DW4 commanded or that kb O we ran last year.

No matter who the QB is, an offense featuring Wayne Gallman, Jordan Leggett, and Charone Peake/Mike Williams is going to be very different from an offense featuring Travis Etienne/Tavien Feaster, Milan Richard/D.J. Greenlee, and Deon Cain.

So, the 2014 offense wasn't different with DW playing than when Stoudt did? Because that offense had Gallman, Leggett, Williams, and Peake.
Peake was not on the 2015 or 2016 teams so not sure why you're throwing him in there, but Deon Cain was.
Of course with more weapons a QB will be better, it's nonsense to argue against that. But the main driving force of our offense in 2015 and 2016 was DW4. In '15 Williams was hurt for 99.9% of the season and the offense was still great.

TL’s film is the best I’ve ever seen coming out of HS

and that includes DW4. The thing that really separates DW4 from other talented QBs is his mental side of the game. The presnap reads, calling the right protection, positioning the RB etc is what makes him special. You guys are right. We won’t know who the starter is for sure for a while but raw talent alone will not win the job. Hopefully one of these guys will mix the raw talent and mental side of the game the way DW did. If TL or any of the others do all of our opponents will be put on notice. Go ??!

Right that TL's film is the best ever seen. If you've ever seen him play in a real game outside of the Army AA game, he would have taken your breath away, too. He's the highest rated QB since some recruiting services have been rating QBs.
I am a new Tiger fan. I am a fan of another school that I attended and have been a fan of them since the 1960s. I have been following recruiting since the early 1970s really closely. I always made my own lists of top recruits in my home state. All that to say that Trevor Lawrence is the best I have ever seen at this stage of the game. This kid is phenomenal. My daughter moved to Greenville about 10 years ago with her new husband who is from there. We are there pretty often these days and hope to retire there in the not too distant future. I went to Clemson for the first time about then and I have been a fan since then. Well, and Dabo, too.

Welcome, and I would feel safe with assuming that we will pick up a new fan weekly. Most of the new ones though, are the ones that jump on the winner band wagon for as long as we're winning and in the bright lights!!! Hopefully you will stick around and become to love our Tigers as most of us do and have for many many years. When you can love a mediocre team as our true fans have, winning the way we are now just proves we made a good choice years ago!!! I made my choice to be a Clemson Tiger in the early 1960's. Welcome and Goooo Tigerssss!!!!

DW4 is one of the fastest learners at QB I have ever seen.
I watched the Texans preseason. Tom Savage was clearly the better QB. By Week 3, DW4 was lighting up the league. Here at Clemson that he was able to dominate as a true freshman who had missed spring practice was incredible. There was no Stoudt conspiracy, DW4 simply exceeded all expectations because that's what he does.
This is highly unusual, but a lot of Tiger fans take it for granted.
On to 2018...
The coaches are happy with KB2. They are aware of the problems in the passing game, but seem to think that WR play and RB pass protection are the problem, and I agree. Anyone else who wants the starting job has to prove they are better than KB2. Ideal situation for them would be for KB2 to improve and clearly win the starting job, then TL/HJ/CB to have a clean competition in 2019.
TL will be a star, but I would be shocked if it happened next season. He has a lot to learn and a lot of talent in front of him.

Even if KB2 can't throw the deep ball, HJ more likely to take over than TL next season.

This line worries me
“For us, what we're looking for is being able to have command of the offense, being able to flip the protections, put the running back where he's supposed to be, communicate with the offensive line, be able to kind of run everything out there on the field“
Just bc Kelly can get us into a good position doesn’t mean he can execute it. He’s limited with his arm and by default.. our offense is. We need to test these younger guys and build for the future now with a BEAST of a defense to keep us in games even when the qb has his mistakes.

Kelly wasn't changing protections and flipping anything last year. Lets just be honest. He was taking the call from the sideline and going with it.

New Fans Come From The .....
Mar 13, 2018, 12:46 PM

Strangest places. Case in point...my two nephews . Both grew up Coot fans ( I threatened their dad with child abuse charges..LOL) . The oldest went to Clemson on a visit with a friend 3 years ago. He fell in love with the place, got rid of his Coot stuff and became a Clemson fan. He's finishing up his 2nd year at Clemson...on the Dean's List both years . The other nephew started visiting his brother there every few months and now he's a Clemson fan and hopes to get a scholarship to play baseball there in 2 years.
Now to football. I've written this before but here goes. A friend from Georgia is a high school football fanatic . He watched DW4 for three years and told me that he was the best QB that Clemson would ever get. After watching TL for a few years he told me that he was wrong...TL would be the best that Clemson would ever get. I guess we'll see....DW4 has a Grand Canyon size pair of shoes to fill .

This was my main "complaint," for lack of a better word with KB. He has the talent and the arm to win with, but being able to change protections, read defenses, etc. seemed to be limited. That said we were spoiled with having 2.5 years of DW4 who was probably the best to do those things in Clemson history, possibly all of college football.
Along with the pre-snap reads, it seemed like KB would make his read on the options before the snap, or if not then he misread them often.

KB needs to get on the same page with TeeH and the other WRs. He needs another WR or TE that will fight for every ball. Last year we had HR... KB needs at least one more.

KB had a few shortcomings that were magnified by our OL not providing the necessary protection. If the OL can give him one or two more seconds we should see a vast change in his production and success. Watson had the ability make a play even when he was under extreme pressure. I believe Lawrence fits that same mold.
In years past never once did I dream we would have the depth at QB that we now have. If we were a pro team, just imagine now much interest other teams would have for either one of our QBs.
