What would that add to the conference ? Don't know much about their athletic program.

They were part of the best 30 for 30 ever produced by ESPN.

Perhaps SMU is following Notre Dames lead and looking to become part-time football members of the ACC. The 2 half members would equal 1 full member. Go get 2 more teams to become half
members and then we would have 2 full time members as a result of 4 half members.

In other words, the SEC is obviously playing checkers while the ACC is playing chess

Yikes.

Stick to possibly credible scenarios.

This isn’t one.

The Big 12 doesn't want SMU. Neither should the ACC

Jul 14, 2022, 1:49 AM

However, I don't give a care because Clemson will be moving to the SEC or B1G.

If the ACC believes adding SMU will give them a "footprint" in Texas, sure, but it won't be worth a dime. Nobody here gives a care about watching SMU football on TV so it won't help the ACC charge more money for their network here. If BC, NC State, Duke or anyone else thinks playing a game in Dallas against SMU every two years will help their recruiting much, they are free to be wrong.

I thought if SMU or any new team were to join the ACC a new TV contract would have to be negotiated which in turn would allow the existing ACC schools to get out of the Grant of Rights.

I think it's more likely SMU is asking the ACC and every other conference about the possibility of joining.

Recent Twitter post by David Hale claims adding a new school will not open up the GoR for renegotiation. The new school would agree to join the existing GoR and any new media rights contract(s) would be negotiated separately.

They play every year for some type of camping cookware.

Dabo will be unstoppable in Texas if this goes through.

Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Would any conference ever consider SMU, the death penalty school?

The thing that confuses me is that some TV executive will believe that adds Dallas TV market. They look at the market but over or under value the product.

The report about this on a Seminole website (don't remember which one or I would give you the link) included the line (paraphrased): Reports are that SMU is being considered as an addition to the ACC. This would be a result of FSU and Clemson having had discussions with the SEC and B1G since the announcement of Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC. These discussions have been going on for over a year.

I have no idea what is actually going on. But, if Clemson and FSU got to the SEC I don't care one way or the other if SMU or UConn join the ACC.
