May 11, 2013, 9:15 AM

There have been 6 times that we have beaten them 4 times in a row and an additional time that we beat them 7 times in a row.

1897-1900 1916-1919 1927-1930 1980-1983
1988-1991 1997-2000 2002-2005
and the 7 year stint of 1934-1940

Technically we almost had another 7 win streak on them, but I think a tie was thrown somewhere in there. If you don't like to count ties, you could just call it 6 in a row.

Also, take note of the fact that until 1960 we played them only in Columbia, and the fact that before cars were invented, our players basically had to walk all the way there.

So, we have 3 four-win streaks, 1 seven-wing streak, and that lone six-win streak which were all made AT THEIR FIELD EXCLUSIVELY.

Just scroll down to the football section.

It really doesn't matter about that to most fans. They were not around for the 1800's the 1910's,20's,30's,40's50's,60's,or most the 70's or 80's. The current students have only been there for the last 4 years. It's the students and younger kids that are carrying this "fear the thumb" banner. If an adult does it....ignore him...he is probably a bandwagon Gamecock that will bail at the first sign of adversity. I have been a Gamecock too long to carry that silly message.

Coot traditions?

May 11, 2013, 12:16 PM

does habitually underperforming for more than a century count as tradition ? I always enjoy that home entrance "tradition". They play the theme from Kojak and somebody lights off the Big Lots Halloween smoke machine...then a bunch of people wearing that godawful garnet run out of one of the many nondescript tunnels onto the field that looks exactly like Jawja's with the hedges in a slightly different area .

We have a new tradition....(you guys with your silly stuff make me do this and I don't want to)...it's called "beat an acc powerhouse with a backup QB and RB". This year we are going 3rd string....it's a home game and these double digit wins are getting boring.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i actually THOUGHT you knew about your own team.

May 11, 2013, 12:34 PM

the 'ol sac started dylan thomas (sp?) ahead of shaw due to the passing attack. shaw was available and ready. therefore, dylan WAS the starting qb, not the "back-up".

Re: i actually THOUGHT you knew about your own team.

May 11, 2013, 1:01 PM

Wrong again....Shaw is THE starting QB and could NOT play against Clemson. That was a game time decision not a game day plan. It's not like Shaw didn't run all over Clemson the year before. Why would he not run all over Clemson again ? Your statement would make sense if Shaw had not played well against Clemson but he also does very well against Clemson. You are just one of the Clemson fans that can't accept defeat. You really don't have to but after all...it is what it is. He was our back up ALL year long but because Clemson lost, he was our starter....get real !

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

bs. the 'ol sack himself said he was ready and available.

May 11, 2013, 2:23 PM

trying to inflate your victory shows that y'all are not used to winning and the odds are that y'all won't ever have (or need) the chance to get used to it. read it and weep. the truth shall set you free!

He was available if needed. He was not healthy though. If he was 100% he would have strarted. Turns out he wasnt needed.

about as much as anyone else, for the 12th game of the yr.

Your defense won that game for you, and everyone knows Thompson better than Shaw. Besides we were missing most of starting secondary so you can't say we weren't even on the injuries

Re: Re: Coot traditions?

May 11, 2013, 1:04 PM

I didn't see the defense run back a kick off and I missed them on the any of TD passes. Geez....I wonder how they scored 27 points....Our defense is outstanding but the offense scored the points. Geez....

I agree...lets go back into time....Minnesota has 7 national championships....they are great, were great, no recently they were not so great but because of the past they are still great...right? See....this looking back in the past thing just doesn't cut it. I see way too many thing that can't change what it is now. I'm sorry...the past thing is just that...the past. Go Gophers !

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Re: Re: Coot traditions?

May 11, 2013, 1:27 PM

With your defense, your offense had more opportunities, so obviously they would look better. I'll give you the kickoff thing though, our special teams were horrible all year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Re: Re: Coot traditions?

May 11, 2013, 1:31 PM

I really didn't come here to get into an argument about how or why we won the game. It was a win and that's all that counts. This back and forth solves nothing, doesn't change the score, so it's in the books so I will call it a day on that. I just don't get all the well, this and that stuff fans come up with to lighten the loss. Then to run our team down with trash and BS after the loss is just ...well...silly. Done with this....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes..Please be done and go to the coot's board..Thanks.***

Re: Re: Coot Logic 101

May 11, 2013, 1:31 PM

But the difference is Clemson is STILL a great team, so it's more relevant for them. Also, how are you not dwelling on the past by still talking about wins that happened 4 years ago?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Re: Coot Logic 101

May 11, 2013, 1:34 PM

Never said Clemson was not a great team....but if they are great, then to say things bad about a team that won a head to head match up does not speak well of your team. That in reality is trashing your own team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Re: Re: Coot Logic 101

May 11, 2013, 1:39 PM

I never said anything bad about the current SC team, just bad stuff about their history as a program. Look at my post, I praised their defense. Even so, my team has nothing to be ashamed about, I think Dec. 31 proved that.

Know Tigers have won 7 straight FB games twice vs Coots, but

May 12, 2013, 1:32 PM

I honestly don't think either team will do that again..but if they do it will be the Coots winning in 2013, 2014 & 2015..WHICH I KNOW WILL NEVER HAPPEN WITH THE TALENT CLEMSON IS BRINGING IN..

And if they do I will start pulling for them Birds occasionally..after my TiGERs!
