NC State and SMU Fined for Violations of ACC Event Security Policy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that North Carolina State University and Southern Methodist University have been fined for violations of the league’s event security policy following the November 1 football games versus Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Miami, respectively.

The violations occurred when fans entered the field of play after the conclusion of the contests prior to the visiting team personnel and officials exiting the competition area. The conference’s event security policy is designed to protect the safety and well-being of all student-athletes, coaches, officials and fans.

In accordance with ACC policy, NC State and SMU will each incur a fine of $50,000 for a first offense.

All fines collected under the policy are directed to the Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Fund, which benefits ACC student-athletes pursuing graduate education.

The updated event security policy was announced on July 22, 2025, during ACC Football Kickoff. The initiative applies to football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball for the 2025-26 academic year.
