AFTER one performs on the field, not on the thought they "could be" a performer. Or to entice them to come either.
This is the fundamental flaw of the system, and with NO ONE to govern it. (At least with backbone).
Pay, okay I get it, but based on what they have accomplished. Have "goals" like we all do (PTO, merit increases, bonuses, HECK even job security).
This was all sparked from the "California Fair Play Act" and Ed O'Bannon.....b/c we know they have their stuff together there.....sheesh.
It will spill over into the NFL too.....product will get diluted, and the "TEAM" will be gone.
Keon Coleman just faced that backlash during Bills warm up (from fans).
UT (Knoxville) have a non culture fit on defense, where the rest of the team did not even help him up after a legit great play.
I'm hoping we get to see some "Hungry Tigers" vs. our "Stuffed Tigers".
Go Tigers!

Paying on the value they brought, after performing.
Where did I go wrong?

NIL is for whatever benefit a business thinks it will gain by advertising their association with a player (or vice versa).
It's like Mike Huckabee advertising for Relaxium. He doesn't have to do anything but promote the product. An athlete doesn't have to do anything except let a paying business rent his name or picture. In some cases, he may be required to attend a promotional event, which is pay for his time - not tied to any performance metric.
Obviously if an athlete has an increasing performance his NIL can increase, but the initial pay agreement is based on what the business values as the athlete's association and what the athlete accepts as payment.

NIL is for NAME IMAGE AND LIKENESS, it has nothing to do with performance.

If TLAW was third string and Prell wanted to feature him in an shampoo commercial, then he could actually get paid for it without violating any NCAA rules. Or if a player hardly ever plays (Scheff), but is popular, he could make money from his popularity without ever making a catch.

NIL. But they stand to make the larger amounts, after their performance.....
It has now morphed into "collectives" paying recruits before stepping foot on campus. No school loyalty, only the mighty dollar. It moved to "pay-for-play" vs the intended use, IMO.
That is what I am saying. It is no longer what it was intended, based on local companies using it, and the athlete potentially getting more based on performance (higher draw for that business).
Either way, this killed College sports for me....
Thanks for the conversation!

I've been saying NIL will hurt the NFL product. When it does, that's when you will see change in the current NIL landscape. It's sad to see nobody on thay sideline get in the face of their teammates at any point during this season. If the coaches won't do it, someone on the team needs to.
