hosting content creation, e-commerce, local mail server etc. Have you researched Joomla! CMS? Fairly easy total turnkey setup. My setups were apache/MySQL/PHP/zend and hmailserver on MS 32-bit os.

Gotta stick with asp.net. Don't know enough php. Not great with asp.net either. Found a free template and worked it basically.

venture forward, consider open-source as it has many more advantages- php is not a hard one to learn, even as a novice. Put some time in comparing the two paradigms before you invest a chitload of trial and errors in your web work. Some 60+ percent of all sites are on open-sourced I think. Specifically apache.
Oh and you'll get a lot of RTFM responses in the help forums so be warned

"Non-Biased"?
Oct 25, 2013, 12:59 PM
|

The bias in this ranking (and I don't think it qualifies as a poll because you aren't polling people), or any other computer ranking, comes in what data you choose to use and how you weight it.

I use wins and losses. What else you want me to use? I'm not using margin of victory or home field advantage. Both are flawed beyond imaginable.

I'm not saying it's not valid, not at all

But I am saying you are showing your bias in choosing which data to include and not include. And that's fine. There is simply no way to rank a large number of teams that for the most part do not play each other directly, and in choosing what elements to include (in your case opponent win %) and not have that as a biased measure. It is biased in that you have decided that is the only pertinent information.
Like I said, it's perfectly valid, but biased by design,

It's un-biased in that it doesn't care what the tam name is or what conference they play for or what history they have. It doesn't care what bowl game they played in or where they where ranked a week ago.
It's not biased to any team or conference. Everyone is on the same playing field the better you vs the better teams you play vs the better team they play wins out.
The only bias in my poll I'd say is applying the weak opponent penalty for playing and/or losing to fcs using fcs winpct vs FBS.

I have no problem with it at all
Oct 25, 2013, 1:23 PM

I'm just pointing out that it really isn't a poll and that it's biased by design (as all computer rankings are) in that you choose which data to include in the calculations.
I do think it would be interesting to see a chart of team movement from week to week to see how volatile the rankings are.
Didn't mean for my original post to come across as harsh. It's an interesting ranking for sure

You can view by week but no there isn't any crosschart for rank, team and week. Might add that.
The rankings will vary a ton in early weeks and solidify as the season progresses.

I think he's just saying that you can't really call it a poll (since you're not polling anyone).
It is a very good ranking system based on raw statistics that are easily measured and indisputable... you can't argue the fact that Clemson is 6-1 any more than you can argue that Bama and FSU are still undefeated.
