Any cell phone geeks getting the Google Pixel 10? Fellow Android geeks?

I've always been an Android guy - have never owned an Apple product. Love the customization options with it and none of the proprietary crap of Apple. Was a Samsung guy for a while until I got a Pixel 7 Pro a couple of years ago. Loved it. And none of the bloatware that came with Samsung. Getting the 10 Pro XL this week. Looks like a great phone with a ton of really cool features. I'm definitely a Pixel guy now.

An aside: Isn't it about time we quit calling them "phones" since that's maybe 5% of what most people use them for, at most? Maybe just a "handheld"? I probably get two calls a week, if that. Most communication is done by texting these days. I make maybe 3 outbound calls a week, at most. I don't use it for work, so that makes a big difference.

Might upgrade to that soon. Pixel 6 is still working fine.

I think I got it new for around $400 bucks on a promo. It's the best phone I've ever had.

may look at the Samsung Fold 7, depending on the weight

saw a post the other day, "hate when people call me on my phone, I don't use it for that"

I've normally bought iPhones just because that seems to be easiest. I use my phone for: 1) texts; 2) emails; 3) calls/Facetime; 4) photos.

I've had my current iphone since 2017, I believe. My old phone died in the stadium at the very start of the 2016 Natty against Alabama. I stood up and slipped off my lap and into my Coke.

I switched from a decade of Iphone use. The change over to google took me like an hour. The phone seems to be every bit as capable as an Iphone to me. I prefer Google's cloud for backup versus apple's. I was already using google for email, photos, etc. As expected, the integration between those services is better with a Google phone. The camera is outstanding, but I dont have another recent phone to compare it to.

I'm not sure how much of my endorsement is simply because I upgraded a 5 year old phone--I may have been equally impressed with any Samsung or Iphone. Price wise the Pixel is great. I'm pretty sure I got 2 new Pixel 8a phones the week they came out plus a tablet for under or right at $1,000 with old phone trade-ins and google store credit. The "a" options are affordable and meet my needs.

This is a good link/article:

From what I understood and have read, the Pixel phones are better with AI integration (not creepy AI, but helpful AI, like how to best frame a photo, adding things to your calendar, etc), better photos, Android is always better with customization and therefore simplification if you want to, and updates. I think Google is promising updates for 6 years or so for the Pixel models, which is pretty unheard of. Most manufacturers give you 3-4 years max of updates.

If you like Google products - especially Google Photos - then the easy integration is a big plus.

If you just want an easy phone, then iPHone.

I'm pretty used to it but could see trying something different in a 4-5 years. I didn't really want to get this one but something bad happened with the battery in my old phone. I also refuse to call it something other than a phone.

3, 6, now I'm using the 9a. Love the Pixel phones and especially the high quality cameras they have.

And their plans are among the lowest priced out there. Using T-Mobile and ATT towers iirc.
