Football Season Check-in pre-season vs. now

Before the season started-were you, like me drinking the Kool-aid and pre-planning your CFP trip for the top 10 ranked and future undefeated(pundit/coach speak)Tigers?

When you watched the first game, were you, like me still cautiously optimistic? After all, coaches, players, pundits, etc still said all the right things.

So, genuinely curious-what specific changes and actions have you seen-measurable ones and stats based that give you any hope the rest of the season might be better or, perhaps more of the same?

Do you feel that after the expected win against a bottom(literally) ACC UNC team-the Tigers turned a corner?

They did the expected-in the win category sure-but did they dominate a bottom tier and completely tanking CFB UNC team? Beyond 1 qtr score, what gives you confidence?

What specific and measurable/trackable changes did you see in that game that make you feel confident moving forward?

I’m NOT referring to expected fundamentals and fluff: CK doing what he’s expected to do(stay in the pocket, make reads, etc. or Allen in the sidelines).

What coaching or player and game management stats/metrics(not feelings or opinions) did you really see that were significantly different?

If, like me, you’ve had to adjust(weekly) your expectations, how ya feeling now about the actual play/coaching(not punditry) of the team? The rest of the season?

This board is full of “experts” with lots of feelings(guilty)-set those aside, as well as the cult-like defense(at times) and occasional name calling-and let your CFB knowledge shine and share insights.

Cheers and Go Tigers….truly hope they have turned a corner.

The UNC game, if only, does provide a foundation for continued improvement. Though I still have some deep, deep concerns. The OL still looks average at best, which could prove to be a problem. The DL still looks unmotivated. Against a very weak UNC offensive line, they could only get one sack. One. With a secondary that is pretty inconsistent that also could prove to be a problem, especially against good passing teams. Like I said, it's a good game to build off of although there is a lot of work to do.

I don't think it's logical to make any assumptions based on the UNC game.

The UNC game this year feels like last year's NC State game, except we're not as good this year for some reason. Last year we were average / below average against the few above average to good teams we played. I'm not very optimistic at all after watching us beat up (for one quarter as you point out) a floundering UNC team. I would love to be wrong and we run the table. However, even if we do that, I think I'd rather we play the future players of this program and bench the kids who have no eligibility remaining after this year.

Looking at Clemson's remaining schedule objectively...

I'm not sure I see four more wins. Clemson should beat BC and Furman. Beyond that, SMU, Duke, FSU, and Louisville will all be tough outs. The match-up with the Capons will be a total toss-up.

The UNC game did what it was supposed to, put an extremely easy W in its column. That program in Chapel Hill is far worse than I ever expected.

My expectations for us haven't changed after that UNC game though. This team is still horrifically bad and it'll show against teams that are above .500 this year and there's really no reason for me to explain it further than we all have this past month. Massive changes need to be made in Clemson.

I drank the kool-aid before the season started. Didn't think it was spiked with nightshade though.

I thought the defense would be lights out this year with all the talent coming back and the addition of DC.

The offense last year struggled against defenses in the Top 50 Total Defenses.
Two wins last year against teams with winning records and both of those were last minute miracles (Pitt & SMU) so I didn't think Natty but at last ACC contenders. Never saw this coming.

I was concerned about the DBs, the RBs, and the WRs...

Those concerns haven't waned, but I wasn't expecting to add the QB, the OL, the DL, and the LBs to my list.

The UNC game proved Clemson was not the worst P4 team in the country

A BC road win will underline this reality even further. We beat SMU, Duke, and FSU, then Clemson will be 6-3 with potential to keep winning.
