Fridge.net: Ice maker
Nov 16, 2021, 8:11 AM
|
|
So I have one of those fancy fridges with the french doors and the pull out drawer with the ice maker in the fridge section.
Now the ice maker isn't working.
I've gotten maybe 12 cubes since Saturday.
Tried to call GE and can't get anybody.
Anybody had any issues with their in door ice maker and if so, how did you fix it?
I'm wondering if it's not frozen somewhere in there and I can use a hair dryer to get it unclogged.

Maybe if I can get up to my elbow

Replacing the assembly wasn't too difficult on our LG.

The hardest element was finding the right part (LG likes giving the same part number to multiple versions of product). If the other methods work, you might try replacing it yourself.

and had to call warranty on it a month in. In my case, warranty repair nerds replaced entire assembly. But in my case the h2o never froze.

I’ve got a maytag that often pulls that stunt.

What I have determined the root cause to be is my wife and daughter are incapable of fully closing the refrigerator door all the way, so everything is running hard and it freezes up. I just let the bring the temp up a bit in the fridge a level and it thaws the ice line enough for the ice to drop. Ain’t dead from rotted food yet.

my fridge/freezer is 20+ years old

still makes cubes (actually kind of half-moon shapes) like a champ.
NOT a door model, it's the simple back-left corner icemaker with the removable bucket underneath. Can empty the bucket in the AM and it's overflowing with ice again that night.
Simple is best. ALWAYS.

Samsung repair guy said the in-the-fridge ice makers are #### and always fail. We use the dispenser just for water. I'm not so lazy that I can't open the drawer, scoop a scoop of ice and reclose the drawer.

They really do suck by design. We now have a Frigidaire and it sucks.

From the ones we and our kids have bought lately.
I hate our Frigidaire.
GE is ok.
We do empty the ice on a regular basis.

in fridge freezers suck for this very reason...
Nov 16, 2021, 10:31 AM
|
|
the freezer's defrost cycle freezes it up over time and it has to be defrosted. I had an LG like that and eventually just gave up on the POS icemaker and bought a counter top model to make ice.

So I've unplugged it for 15 minutes
Nov 16, 2021, 10:40 AM

with the doors open. Then used the hair dryer on the ice making thing.
I don't think it's the water line since I'm getting water out the dispenser. Must be ice backed up in the maker

empty that sucker on a regular basis if you do not use ice. Keep it moving, it's like your bowels, once it gets plugged up, you're f'ed.
