My daughter graduated “twice” today!

Dec 16, 2021, 5:28 PM

The guy calling the names out mangled hers badly and got flustered to where he didn’t say the parts about her being a Summa grad or Honors Program. She was crushed & crying because of it. Fortunately she was sitting on the end of the row and was able to tell the Marshall about it & she was able to get at the end of the line. They got it fixed and she got to “go again” and got an ovation and hug from Dr. Clements to close out the ceremony. Next adventure begins in July as she starts Med School.

GREAT DAY TO BE A TIGER!!!!!

My daughter reads HS grad names. She agonizes over it every year. Not like you have a class of easy names like from years when I graduated.

not to mention, how people overact like its being totally

disrespectful. My name is mispronounced and misspelled. Has been all my life. I correct people when it matters but it never offends me.

Yeah, I agree.

I have what appears to be an easy name to say but my vowels are different. Unless you knew someone else with my Surname, you will get it wrong.

They give you a chance to let the Provost know how to say it even with a phonetic card or other (often the person reading the names is a academic admin, not a professional speaker). I literally write out two vastly different words that if said together sound like how my name is pronounced. So I tell people to say it like you don't trust bread. "Wheat Iffy" so to speak.

I will give all the props to one reader I once saw. A deaf person reading everyone names. Sure, it was not 100% but dang, it was impressive. Anyone complaining about that would be braned a coot and sent to do 5 years at the broad correctional river housing complex called cootlumbia.

---

What really irks me is Clemson Giving. For the LOVE of all that is holy, please at LEAST check the database on your titles. I have a PhD from Clemson and my wife is a Clemson grad but yet we get things addressed to

Mr. and Mrs. FutureDoc.

First, I am Dr. FutureDoc. Second, my wife kept her maiden name (because googling her accomplishment is professionally important). So it should be
Dr. FutureDoc and Ms. ExcessiveAwardwinner.

She even worked for Giving and still is in that realm and they can't get it right. Sigh.

You have to be extremely proud of her accomplishments and also graduating from Clemson. A salute to a proud PaPa and of course the daughter.

I hope you kept your cool and didn't make a scene.

Nevermind. I'm sure your composure was impeccable and the epitomy of class and couth.

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

Congrats! Glad they attempted to make it right.

Congrats on the Medical School as well! I imagine she’ll do great. First two years are a grind and then while hard work 3rd and 4th years are tough but a little more fun. Then first year of residency is tough but if doing what she wants then becomes more fun too. It’s a long haul but with a Clemson background and the family’s support I’m sure she’ll do well.
