The best thing coming out of the Tennessee visit ….
Matthews didn’t commit…
I see a lot of people assuming he’s a Tenn lock….
Here’s a little perspective…
The morning of 6/5/23 ON3 listed Bryant Wesco as 71% Oklahoma….
Bryant Wesco committed to Clemson on June 6th…..
247 tends to be a little more conservative on predictions versus ON3…. They haven’t made a prediction yet….
Tennessee just promoted their QB coach to OC….
He has NEVER been an OC before …
Clemson went out and hired the most sought after OC in the country ….
We fired our OC partially because we lost to Tenn and SCar…
Last year was a disappointing season for Clemson and an apex moment for Tenn….
Tenn can talk about potential …but they haven’t won a Conf or National Title….since 1998 ….
Think about that …. In their apex season Tenn squeaked by Bama…
In 2018 we won a national title beating Bama 44-16…
Don’t count us out with Matthews…

I find it interesting how the Clemson fan base has rallied around getting Mathews. Literally every Clemson fan is waiting by their phone for any news regarding him. I sure hope we do get him though

We have advanced into the future and the internet world, we no longer wait for the phone to ring, we now stand by our computers and just wait for it to be posted, all Clemson fans that are waiting can get the information together at the same time by investing in the cyber space thingy called the internet that can reach everyone around the world at the same time, so why would we wait on the phone to ring when that contraption can drop you before the message gets to you...LMAO at the 10 A C fans still waiting on a phone call!!!

These Matthews posts really don't seem much different than every other 5 star recruit that has visited in the last 10 years.

Mike mentioned he would commit sometime near 06/26. If not on that date (today). But I don’t think we will see a commitment from him until after season starts, maybe even during or later in the season.
How Clemson performs will be the ultimate factor in whether or not our recruiting can keep pace. The ultimate factor in not having players dip out in the portal even more.
It’s a huge year for this program. And for Tennessee as well. I know they will be good, but are they national title good? Is Heupel able to stay consistent?
The thing that Clemson has is a coach with 2 national titles and God knows how many trophies. A proven school for developing players and graduates. Matthews really seems to have a good head on his shoulders. A very mature kid. Every post after each visit, he thoroughly thanked each team. And was genuinely appreciative. I know that sounds weird, but it’s more rare nowadays to see recruits stay grounded like that in his NIL position and everything.
Rambling, but I pick Matthews to come to Clemson. But only if we show true change.

Dabo has shown true change the minute he hired one of the most sought after offensive coordinators in the country with Garrett Riley!!! But hey, Riley quit the team that he helped to play for a national championship, and went to work for a team and a HC that has won TWO/2 national championships in less than 10 years of being a first time ever HC!!!!

Yeah Dabo is still young for coaches. It’s less often that younger coaches bring so much success, or as much as Dabo did. Although, I don’t see Dabo coaching as long as others. Made him a leader in the ability of young coaches to figure out a way to build programs and how to coach.
I think there’s many who model their style after Dabo. I’m not saying Shane Beamer necessarily acts every way Dabo does, but there’s similarities in their leadership.

I've seen comments from recent commits that one reason they did commit was that they wanted to bring back championships to Clemson.

I agree with this as well. Most of the kids coming out of high school now were witnessing the greatest stretch of Clemson football. It was exciting, especially the regional kids, got a front row seat. Most of my favorite sports teams(outside Clemson)were cemented when I was 12-15yrs old…would think that’s true for a majority

I lived in Florida from the age of 13 to 16 in the 60s. Florida was about a .500 team in those years. FSU was losing to Wake and playing Presbyterian and the likes of Tulane, so I was a Gator fan. But none of the Big 3 in the state of Florida was worth a hoot in those years. Big time football was played in southern california, and the midwest. Things really got better awhile later when the black kids started to figure into the picture.
Clemson was a minor program in a minor league in the 60s. We won the ACC from time to time, but we were not big time football. From the mid 40s through the mid 70s we had our moments but SC was the bigger, better program.
We have come a long, long way in my lifetime as a student and a fan. I would not have it any other way. If you recall the long no-bowl era from 1959-1977 you are likely a Clemson fan made of sterner stuff.
Go Tigers!!

… that SCAR was the bigger and better program from the late 1940s to the med 1970s.
Clemson was a fixture in the Orange, Gator, Sugar and other bowls in that time period. Clemson had a couple of undefeated seasons.
The Tigers won multiple ACC titles while SCAR was doing basically nothing.
The rivalry is intense and SCAR was able to win their share against Clemson, but in no way was their overall football program ever superior to Clemson taking that entire period into consideration.

I am wondering why so many people think it will be Tenn? I see no crystal balls for him to anywhere. From what I see (free info) there is no indication where he will land. I get the idea Clemson has as good of a chance as anyone. Is there some insider info somewhere indicating otherwise?

Mike Matthews would be an excellent commit, but I still want Alex Taylor from Greensboro. He can flat out play!

We have Dabo and he sets the standard for the behavior...

of our coaching staff. He governs players rather than allowing them to act like children. That's a big deal to parents and the boundaries which Dabo sets for our players makes young men feel secure.
Any child who plays in a fenced in yard will have a blast without feeling restricted but feels safe and secure.
