Michigan ST, Miami, NCST, Nebraska, Ohio ST

Jul 28, 2021, 10:02 AM

Florida St, Wisconsin, Va Tech, Clemson, Notre Dame, Louisville, West Va, Michigan (and a few other lucky teams) would make for a Super-Power Football Conference. This Must happen to beat the money unfairness about to come against all current conferences.

Who did I leave out..?

Where is Penn State?***

Jul 28, 2021, 10:03 AM

Arguments might be made for OK State, Iowa State and maybe KS State

Notre Dame probably won't join.

Well...in fairness, why should they?

If the CFP is expanded to twelve teams, an 11-1 or maybe even a 10-2 Notre Dame team is going to be in the CFP. What incentive would they have to join a conference?

Now, if the CFP only expands to 8 teams and sets-up a format where the Power 5 conference champions are automatic qualifiers followed by three at-large teams (one of which is likely a GoF program), the Bee Bee Heads road to the CFP becomes more challenging.

Leave out Ohio St.

I don't see how they can remain independent.

Jul 28, 2021, 1:54 PM [ in reply to Re: Michigan ST, Miami, NCST, Nebraska, Ohio ST ]

The TV contract they can negotiate on their own will be much less than it would be if they are part of an expanded ACC. Plus, by remaining independent they will find it harder to schedule opponents who are already in a strong conference. They are also making it impossible to be a top 4 seed in the playoffs and get a bye, since conference championship is going to be required for that.

Other than pride from a bygone era of football, how does it help Notre Dame to remain independent?

I would expect the sec to try to nix that conference champ getting a bye clause.
