Michigan compared to FSU

Why is Michigan's offense and QB play irrelevant, but FSU's back up QB excludes it from the CFP? I'm not saying that Michigan doesn't deserve to be in, but they are the 1 seed with an anemic offense. They had less yards in their championship game than FSU did. They had so much confidence in JJ McCarthy that they threw a total of ZERO passes in the second half against Penn State. Yet, they are rewarded with the 1 seed.

Michigan has no offense and they are playing to beat the opponent. FSU, who will get their back up back, has problems and "they just aren't the same without Travis." Michigan doesn't trust McCarthy enough to throw a pass in an entire half and he is a "great game manager". FSU reverts to running the wildcat on several plays and they are a team that couldn't have gone 13 and 0 without Travis. Maybe not in the ACC, but what about in the B1G where passes aren't needed to beat the 3rd best team in the league?

Michigan has 1 quality win and they are #1. I don't want to hear about Penn State or Iowa. If you don't even need to try and keep the defense honest with a single pass, then you can't count that as a quality win. Vegas had Iowa's team over/under for each half at a 1/2 point. It wasn't a bet on how much they could score, but if they could score. You can't count that as a quality win either. FSU beats 2 SEC teams, 1 without Travis and the other worse than Bama, and gets through the deepest conference, according to bowl bids, unscathed and they wouldn't be able to get it done?

If the QB matters that much, then why is Michigan rewarded with the #1 seed? If he doesn't, then why isn't FSU in the playoff?

I think because Michigan beat the #2 team and the #9 team. Maybe they just think that they run the offense they want. Michigan seems like they would have problems if they get down and have to throw.

If the running game is successful then you keep the ball longer...

and rest your defense while exhausting your opponents. TOP is lopsided which is a most significant stat.

In consideration of the OP, I'd say, Michigan didn't have to pass to win. For example; Dabo always runs the ball which runs the clock out when a win is secure. Nothing delight me more than a long, time consuming drive bases exclusively on the run.

FYI, my most hated teams are ND, USCw, Michigan, OSU and anyone in the ACC. All rank above the rest making my care for any zero.

I guess that it is fairly obvious that I despise the whole B1G with whoever is currently on top getting the bulk of my ire.

I agree that Michigan didn't need to pass, but to me that says a lot about their opponent. Penn State knew they weren't going to pass and still couldn't stop them. I don't see how you rank that team in the top 10. Media bias which produces a bias on the rankings puts Penn State several spots ahead of where they should be.

The B1G bias is reflected in their performance in the playoffs. They are 3-7 with 2 of the victories coming in the first year. Two of the losses were by shutout.

I would put Michigan as my #2 because they have a dominant defense. However, FSU has a really good defense that stepped up and were a great defense when they needed to be. Watching the end of the Louisville game I never felt like the game was in doubt in the 2nd half.

Maybe this will reflect my opinion a little better. Daniels for LSU is a great football player and FSU beat them by 21 if my memory serves me correctly. A great football player does not make you a great team. FSU didn't win that game because Travis was 21 points better than Daniels. They won the game because their team was considerably better than FSU. Travis going down hurts FSU but they are a whole lot more than him.

I would say that they beat the #7 and #10 teams. There hasn't been any significant changes in the teams since the losses and the current poll has more data points to go on.

Final score still 27-0 against Iowa. And not sure who has has successs against the Hawkeyes

No passes against Penn State was basically Harbaugh going Alpha and lettting PSU know where they stand in the B1G. Nothing to do with trusting the QB. There was no need to keep PSU honest. PSU was selling out the run and couldn’t stop Michigan
