I see a lot of folks discounting the "banana" incident and the students' reaction to it. I get that. I'm as far from "PC" as any old codger could possibly be. But I'm not sure that's what's going on here. When I fought with virtually every race and creed this great country has to offer, it became very clear to me that we all share a common bond as Americans...and we all bleed the same way for this great country. But that doesn't mean we don't have our differences, too. Something that would be "water off a duck's back" to me might be a serious affront to others, and let's face it, we Americans are proud people. Our pride, our dignity---are important. If that's what those young folks were standing up for---honor, dignity, pride---good for them.
You can't take it out on an entire race because some turd did something dumb. We don't even know the race or gender of this turd. It might be a black, transgender, homophobic, ADD suffering, wheelchair ridden, gamecoot, atheist with a speech impediment and tourettes syndrome who hates anybody that isn't just exactly like him/her/it.
