Backstory: My local store sets aside their allocated bourbons and does a lottery every so often. To get in, you buy $2,500 of anything, beer, wine, booze. Once you hit the $2,500 you can get a ticket, if you keep going you can get up to 4 tickets. Yes, I was next to a Clemson guy who had four tickets.
Today's action: Get there around 9am, I thought that was the time, but there were only about 10 people there, so I am thinking this is an easy win to get a good whiskey. I posted the picks a few days ago.

Turns out the pick happens at 9:30 and it was packed. Maybe 60 at least, so now I think, I might get something, but maybe not. Clemson guy with 4 tix says he has been there and not been picked. Oh well.
Pick time: first number picked? Papa G. LOL. I am stunned really. Now I could have picked a bottle of Pappy, but I already had it and I do not buy to resell, I want to drink. I went with the Weller CYPB. Heard it was good, very hard to find and definitely something you want to share.
End of story - Now that I won, I just got knocked down $1000 on their list, so to get back in, you spend another grand. Well, that is about 10 bottles of most stuff I buy, but it will be a while before I hit it again.

But I would have taken the Pappy, sold it, then buy a bunch of bottles to drink.

and it was like an albatross around my neck. I finally gave them to a great friend who loves bourbon and will share with others. He has yet to open, but I will be there when he does.

The licka' sto' up in ####### by my office does the lottery as well but everything that is sold that day they open when you buy it so you can't resell it. Something I actually appreciate since I want to drink it, not keep it on a shelf for 10 years.

everything is MSRP, so I paid $65 for the Weller. Pretty fair system and obviously promotes returning customers.
This store has a great Scotch selection, which is why I started buying there.

But the package stores do lotteries for the good stuff, which you get an MSRP. Get on their email list. Respond in the affirmative when they mail out for lottery entries. Wait.
I ain't ner been picked.
Might as well be the Masters.

Sell the CYPB and go buy Stagg and Weller Full Proof. It’s not up to the hype IMO.
