WalterFootball on Deon Cain

|
|
Deon Cain, WR, Clemson Height: 6-2. Weight: 200. Projected 40 Time: 4.51. Projected Round (2018): 3-5. Deon Cain seems to be making a big mistake. Cain was once considered a second-round prospect, but he's likely to be chosen on Day 3 now because of a poor season. He dropped lots of passes in 2017, and NFL sources told Charlie Campbell that they view Cain as a "one-trick pony." Cain could've returned to school and restored his draft stock, but he opted not to do so. This is a classic case of selling low.

Out of the ones leaving I feel he needs another year. But we don’t know all of the circumstances that he has going on. Wish he would stay but wish him the best of luck.

WRs that have the potential to be a #1 WR are always taken high. Deon absolutely has that potential. I will be surprised if he is 4.51. I think he’s faster. We will see

He was our #1 WR

Are we a bad team?
In all seriousness, Cain absolutely does have all the attributes of a #1 WR similar to OBJ or Amari Cooper. Neither of those are the 6’3”+ jump ball guys either. The only thing that Cain has lacked is focus which has led to drops. He has the size, speed, hands and athleticism of a #1 threat. His focus can be trained and improved. NFL teams will obviously be able to see that he was held back this year by a run-first offense with a limited QB.
Deon’s FR/SO stats are similar to OBJ’s. Then his JR stats clearly fell off due to KB. The receptions and TDs are still there. But his ypc went way down from what he had been doing. He was actually ahead of OBJ. Now tell me that having DW4 this year wouldn’t have made Deon’s stats way better.
I think he has 1st round potential, but I think it is most likely he is taken in the 2nd-3rd.

He's not a 1st rounder IMO and probably never was or will be. I also think he's fine leaving now as I don't think his stats are likely to improve significantly next year.

More importantly, I think he sees his snaps drop since there are guys behind him that will catch the ball reliably. He had notable drops in SO many games this year that the joke up in my section of death valley was "oh look, Cain had his token drop for the game, now he can go play".

First, the United States are in the same hemisphere so of course he is.
Second, look up the stats from OBJ in college and Deon's are certainly similar, Coopers not so much be he had one of the best years ever in his junior year.

Love me some DC, but based off of this year, he is a late 2nd-3rd round guy IF he shows out at the combine

not sure he has reliable enough hands for that. He's not a particularly good WR prospect IMO. He's like artavis Scott but except a little faster and not as tough, strong, or reliable.
That said, it wouldn't been the same story for him next year. It's a tough decision for guys who aren't projected to be high picks but have also likely hit their draft ceiling.

they had KB as the #1 pick in the 2019 draft. can't trust a site that does that. KB is a good college qb, but come on now

This same site also doesn't list Dorian O'Daniel in the top 28 draft-eligible linebackers, so take it for what it's worth.
