Maybe if the team responsible for the cancellation

Dec 28, 2021, 5:03 PM

In the case of the Holiday Bowl, UCLA, were responsible for covering the expenses of the other team, who had nothing whatsoever to do with the cancellation, things would be a little different.

As it stands, you can use COVID as an excuse, you can be lax with your protocols, and the other team pays the same or greater consequence as you. Totally not cool. I wonder how much it cost NCSU to get their entire team and staff, and likely band and cheerleaders, out to San Diego - for nothing.

I'd be furious if I was an NCS player, coach, fan or family member. This is nuts. I remember how mad all of us were last year when FSU backed out. We didn't travel halfway across the country and buy expensive bowl tickets (just regularly expensive regular season tickets!).

The NCAA has really screwed the pooch this bowl season with their COVID protocols which, from everything I've been reading, is simply outdated and not current with the present COVID situation. They're the main ones to blame here - not the bowls, though possibly the schools who had to default.

This should show up as a forfeit for UCLA and likewise for the other teams that had to cancel.

You have to think this will impact future sponsorships of these types of events, assuming TheVid sticks around in it's current form.

Why folks are still acting like Covid is like the plaque is

Dec 28, 2021, 5:18 PM

beyond me. ?????

We know it is survivable by 99.5+%. Many are asymptomatic too. All the hype and hysteria is done to retain control over people and to make excuses for lax, mail in voting so voting can be compromised.

ENOUGH! No more shutdowns! No more cancellations! No more masks! ENOUGH!

Both teams coming understood the risk. The game cancelled so N.C. state did not have to accept the invitation so tuff luck

Making teams that back out for COVID declare a forfeit is about as effective as the NCAA determining that a team was guilty of recruiting violations 5 years ago and therefore must forfeit those games from 5 years ago.

Raleigh to San Diego isn’t halfway across the country, it’s across the entire country.

For many of the teams in lower tier bowls there isn’t much revenue once everything is considered.

Requiring a team to fund the cost of the opponent’s trip if cancellation is required would likely necessitate purchase of an insurance policy to cover such a penalty.

The sponsors have refund clauses and various special events insurance policies as well. Not all publicity was lost, they’ll be ok.

From a financial standpoint, the ones holding the bag the most are the fans who made the trip, particularly NC State’s in this case.

I’d say the fans could just enjoy San Diego’s wonderful weather, but it’s been pretty rainy here for the last week. Sorry Pack fans…
