They grow in all weather conditions and do not require pesticides.

I am guessing you had an extra martini at lunch today. To keep the Mods off your back, I put a bikini on that mator.

It is a coping mechanism for weak-willed individuals who are unable to confront their demons, or an escape for those unhappy with their lives.

I was a heavy drinker for 20 years. I learned that the alcohol itself is not relaxing nor giving you good feelings. Your body thinks it is being poisoned, and is correct in its assumption, so your brain releases a cocktail of feel-good chemical, serotonin, enorphanin, adrenalin, etc... in an attempt to make you feel better. You can release these chemicals on your own with a healthy lifestyle.
Quitting was not easy, I finally understood what the pink elephant is, as you experience mild hallucinations after your 5th day of complete sobriety, assuming you were a long term, heavy drinker.

My lifestyle is not too good, not too bad. One reason may be that I have never smoked anything - never! Not all taking on the Dudeist life style of low stress are dopers.

I think as I near 80, a beer or more is OK. Something will kill me (us all). I doubt it will be beer, if so, lets chalk it up to old age.

Older folks often do not see the humor in life and take things too personal.
My advice is to look into this - https://dudeism.com/
I no longer get annoyed when you hijack my posts.

Mators in pots

One take away from this photo is one can grow great mators in a pot on their deck. Mine are on the dock, but same principle.
Notice my mulch is a plastic cover. Mine get no rain water, use lake water. There is a pipe in the corner of each pot to the bottom with a hole in the pot a couple inches up.

These plants are watered from the bottom up. I have citronella torch wicks in them to pull the water up through the soil from the bottom. A "huge" deal is Mators like constant/consistent water. They don't like wet/dry.
In a pot many pest problems never appear. I believe in adding dolomite and fertilizer to the soil a few weeks "before" planting.
The down side is pots need to be watered everyday. I use solar panels and a 12v pump for that. On a deck/porch you probably have water near.
A cheap, sturdy cage for them can be made with pvc pipe.

My wife and the neighbor tried gardening for the first time this year. Squash, maters, zuchs, cucumbers, peppers, lettuce, and I think some beans. They have no idea what they're doing other than what people tell them or whatever they read from google. Gardens look good. Some of the maters are big and green but they look like the tops are going to split. Any suggestions from anyone?

Your mators are not getting consistent moisture. Wet/dry will cause splitting, but that don't mean you will not get some tasty mators. You garden looks great!

Thanks buddy...I just googled earlier and sent them an article about the cracking and moisture issues. I like your idea of the citronella wicks. I'm going to pass that along as well. I told my wife they need to figure out some kind of watering system with a rain barrell, sprinklers, something that can help other than standing there for half an hour watering the beds. Gotta start somehwere! I was against this deal from the get go because I know these women too well but if you know them you know...don't tell them they can't do something!

rain barrel

In addition to watering mine, I have a 20 gallon tub and a timer that adds water to mine each evening. When watering from the bottom, impossible to over water. Rain barrel would be a good addition. Not all timers work with gravity, so look into that.

Tug your maters always look great, all your effort pays off. Mine don't ever do that great, but I do grow mean peppers.

I suspect your mators are also good. I have a few peppers, like the sweet banana.

I planted a new pepper this year, Italian Marconi, it's a sweet and supposed to grow 8-10 inches or more long. I have some cow horns at least 10 inches long. My nad Jalapenos have some giant fruit on and the regular jalapenos are moving along. I like to make pepper relish which is delish.
The only mater that I can grow worth a toot is the cherry sized, epically the Chocolate Sprinkle. They good too.

For fun (like this year) grow a Habanero in my flower bed. The plant is decorative, fits right in. Making an edible hot sauce from it is a challenge, but I try.

Your maters look about like mine. Big pots. I need to do more consistent watering. But your set up is great.

I ate my first homegrown mater yesterday. I am also watering from bottom up in pots. I have used pvc in the past because they need no glue and can be reused later. I also started my herb garden in pots this year. I found a tray long enough for my maters and I just top it off with fresh spring water. City water just kills them. I had one mater split before I setup the under gray which I just keep full. Great setup on your system. That’s some smart engineering!
