On a the Texas QB situation. Did Manning redshirt? I realize Ewers is expected to return next season.

That would be too much like right. After last year's disappointing performance, every position should be up for grabs, including QB. I feel safe saying Murphy is better or just as good as most of current QBs on the Clemson roster.

Yes Murphy is competition. But guys like him arent transferring to compete and MAYBE get playing time.

He didn’t seem to expect that by signing with Texas with Ewers in front of him but the dynamics changed when Manning signed. Completely different situation with us.

Would be a fair fit if we don't sway Lagway. Would be competing with Vizzina for #2 and prepping to step in and take it on should next man up kick in for any reason. Good a place as any to learn the trade, along with God's Country and all that stuff.

We were at the Texas/BYU game this year doing a college tour for one of our daughters. I was pretty impressed considering Ewers got most of the snaps earlier in the season and how young he was. Definitely better than DJU.

There is a 0% chance Clemson even entertains that idea.
I wish they would but with Cade and Vizzina in the mix, Clemson isn’t going to bring another QB in especially from the portal.

It's the same thing UT fans down here know: He has no chance of playing next year because Quinn Ewers is returning and Arch Manning is slotted as the backup. Once that was settled, he decided to go somewhere he could actually compete.
Not even UT fans are criticizing him. The vast majority are wishing him the best because they clearly know what the score is.
Some folks here just go negative because that's who you are. The real story is the coach, the team and UT's fans wish him the best and thanked him for the wins against K-State and BYU when Ewers were hurt. If it weren't for Maalik Murphy, UT wouldn't even be in the CFP because Arch wasn't close to being ready (if he ever is).
Saying Murphy doesn't want to compete is just plain ignorant.
Sorry to be so harsh, but forgive me this one time please.

It's not ignorant. You are making it out like people think he's scared of competition. That's not the issue. If a guy is transferring in search of more playing time, it makes no sense to go to a school with a similar situation, as opposed going to comparable schools that can guarantee playing time.

Those are the ones who are ignorant of his situation.
I also don't have a problem with QBs transferring to teams where they are basically guaranteed the starting job. The transfer portal is unrestricted free agency and players have every right to use it to their advantage.
LOL, most folks don't know this, but JT Daniels (USC/UGA/WVU) ended up playing here at Rice this year. You can successfully argue "he didn't want to compete" for a starting job. Well, they finished the season 6-6 and will play in a low-level bowl game in a couple of weeks.
For medical reasons, Daniels has retired from football and will go into coaching.
That worked out well for everyone!
I'm just saying some of us should avoid being grump a dumps and not be so harsh on these young guys. If a team rolls out the welcome mat and offers them a starting job, there is nothing wrong with accepting.
