Luv Ray Ray's potential, but wouldn't trust him in big games

The guy is electric when he has the ball and looks like he'll break one at any given time, but all the screw ups are concerning. He's had multiple mishandles fielding punts, dropped a jet sweep, and fumbled off the butt of his own teammate. He's a Frosh so you can cut him a little slack and he'll certainly will be more trustworthy in the years to come. However, we've got a chance to do something really special this year. He's going at a pace of 1 major screw up every other game. It hasn't cost us yet, but in a close games vs better competition (ie. FSU or Playoffs) it will.
I'm not suggesting that he get no touches, but I'd keep them at a minimum when it's a big game or the stakes are high. Of course if Scott gets hurt, you have to roll with him mistakes and all. However, the poor decision making and blunders warrants he not be a big part of the offense unless absolutely necessary IMO.

Has the chance to take it to the house on any given play but also the chance to put it on the ground any play.

Something ol' Zig Zag Mike never came close to being able to do.

Ray Ray's. RR has freshman problems. Mike had a ego problem. Somehow, probably pot, he believed that he was so special that he didn't have to learn the plays, go to class or keep a clear head by staying clean and sober.
RR has a bout of over zealousness. He's get over it soon enough.

Was just thinking the same thing while reading this. He's like Bellamy but without the off the field problems.

There's absolutely no reason for RR to be compared to Bellamy. Ever. Period. Next Question.

Since he and Cain started getting more touches, our offense has arguably improved. I think he will still see many meaningful snaps, but he may lose punt return duties.

protecting Scott's health as getting Ray Ray touches. We have to find somebody with excellent hands and a good enough first step to get some gains on punt returns.

I would probably not put him back on punt returns in a critical situation, or try anything fluky near our own goal line. Other than that I would feature him and let him make plays.

feel comfortable with him on the hot seat? After his making more good plays against so-so teams? I think we need to play him now. And what kind of signal will we be sending other top recruits? I remember seeing basketball players miss a shot and immediately looking at the bench, afraid they were fixing to get pulled. Let's not have that. Go Tigers!!

I'd just minimize them in a big game or give him touches where if he does screw up, it doesn't kill us. It's all about minimizing your risk. For example, if we have some special stuff for him, I'd try to run it on the other teams side of the 50 yard line. I wouldn't use him much inside our own 30 because if he does mess up, we're basically giving the other team points.

agree to an extent however........

those punts, while still inexcusable, have been when the game is out of hand.......otherwise scott is back there. That being said i believe as a team we've muffed/fumbled 5-7 punts which is more of a concern to me. I hold my breath every time we field a punt........almost rather them just let the ball go and depend on our offense to drive down and score.
the jet sweep pass, while still inexcusable is luckily just an incomplete pass
the fumble was from the runningback position......i don't think he needs to be at RB anyway.
in the end i'll take the "risk" for the reward with him getting touches. Since he and cain have become more and more involved we have become a more explosive offense.

All games are big games.
I know you mis-communicated your message and I appreciate your point. RR hasn't been and probably won't be put in a game changing situation without the coaches having removed all doubt in their minds that he can complete the task.

lead, but Dabo says when your name is called YOU HAVE TO BE READY. Dabo did not care that other game was in hand. He expected him to make a play and not fumble the ball. That will reflect in some way on what he does until he proves that he can be trusted. He will and he eventually will get more chances! He is a fine young man and will correct his mistakes.

liability. He couldn't be trusted ...
A phenom athlete, he had some problems adjusting as a true freshman and suffered some busted coverage's.
Now, since the coaches trusted him, he's one of the best DBs in the nation and he's on the verge of leaving us early for a big NFL contract.
