Heard a guy in the radio saying an issue is running back

Adam Randall is getting 5.9 yards per carry. It means nothing what position he previously played, he is running like a true RB with vision, cuts, power, breaking tackles, and catching the ball out of the backfield, etc.

The running back is getting it done. Contrarily the QB is not. The issue is not RB or OL for that matter. THE issue on offense is a dysfunctional QB.

From my perspective at running back it isn't his ability to run, it's his trouble with blocking. Mainly picking up the blitz. One of reasons Gideon Davidson hardly ever plays.

how come our team really only seems to have that problem? why aren't our backs learning how to block fast enough to contribute to the team? seems like any other game i watch, i see multiple RB's rotating in. But somehow as big as our program is, only 1/5 of our backs can pass protect.

The guy dissed on our RB, but he was wrong.

Radio or no radio, the guy acted like RB is a reason we are 1-3. You can see that’s incorrect, right?

I didn’t hear what was said so I can’t comment on it specifically. What I can say is that my take would have been that we have a problem with our running game in total. Right now we are ranked 113th in rushing. Most elite teams have a lot better balance than that and the running game is central to their success.

2025 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We arent 113th in per game yards because of Randall.

The Running back is performing. It’s been noted he’s not getting to all his blocks, but Cade is getting flustered and panicky at the first sign of an opposing jersey. A great QB knows how to step up and avoid rushers to extend the play. As well all have seen, Cade immediately panics, NEVER steps up, and the time he’s buying is exactly the same every time - scramble to his right. When he does this he’s cutting the field in half and dramatically cutting his options down. Even then, he’s not seeing his options.

Maybe Randall needs to do better at blocking, but he’s statistically running better than any RB since ETN.

The ability to run is there, but if the QB isn’t making the passing game work then you get in holes like we have the last 3 games. When you’re in 10-20 point holes, then you have to shift the focus to passing.

We’ve been mediocre or worse at QB. Hence we are 1-3 instead of 4-0.

position that HASN'T BEEN a problem, for the most part. Randall even tries to block, which a whole bunch of first year running backs seem to think ain't part of their job, man!

Randall is definitely doing his part, but he is still only averaging 85 yards per game in rushing. We certainly need to be a lot better than that in total.

Adam Randall against LSU had 5 carries. FIVE.

He’s averaged almost 110 yards per game since then, and we’ve been in catch up mode every game since LSU where the focus had to shift to passing.

I’m sorry but what are you not getting? It’s not scheme or coaching or the OL. The running game works as good as ETN days - when we can actually use it. When you fall in 10-20 point holes like we have for 3 straight games, then the focus has to be on the passing game. That and only having 9 carries among running backs in game 1 are why we are at 85 yards per game.

It’s not coaching or OL or whatever you’re hanging your hat on.. it’s the QB not scoring and us getting in a hole.

When given opportunities the running game has worked. It’s getting those opportunities that is holding us back as far as yards per game. Nothing else.

Let me help you again.

When you fall in 10-20 point deficits like we have the last 3 games, then the focus has to be the pass, where obviously Cade is not getting it done. If we were getting leads then you’d see a lot more of Randall and his per rush average better than any RB since ETN.

Just to be clear - Randall is doing very well and is not part of the problem. The problem lies within the most important position on the field. It’s literally undeniable.

The success … not until their final seasons … of punter Jack Smith and RB Adam Randall reflect ooorly in our coaching staff.

Did A.Randall and J.Smith go from feces to fabulous (very) belatedly? Or were our coaches too timid to try other options at punter and RB by the final third of 2024 season, despite the obvious lack of productivity in both of those units as of that stage in the season?

Arguably our only bright spot on offense is running the ball. Heck, we ran the same running play 3 times in a row Saturday. The result? 3 - 1st downs!

So, we fall into a hole against Syracuse in the 2nd half but with plenty of time left. Our QB and receivers are struggling passing. What do we do? Throw it 60 times!?!!?!!

How can I/we see this but not our multi-million dollar coaching staff???!

Randall went out, which is fine he just picked up 30+ yards he probably needed a break. I was watching with my father-in-law and told him, they can't stop the run, we're finally going to get to see what the back up RB can do. Boy was I wrong. But even if Randall had stayed in, I'm willing to bet the play calls would've been the same. It's almost like when we cross the 50 it automatically becomes "Cade time". Instead of going with what got you there, it's got to be Cade.

The running back is not the issue. The willingness to establish a running game is. Cade, despite his obvious issues, would be much more effective with his passes if the defense had to worry about a running game. But they don’t, not because we can’t but because we won’t.
