Dabo Has Serious Problem
Oct 18, 2021, 10:49 AM

The FB team's problems are very serious and are more than just a few dropped passes, missed OL blocks or a few poorly executed plays. Some one is whistling past the grave yard if they believe a team suddenly fell from the 2nd ranked team in the nation in week one to 25th by week 4 and completely off the radar by week 6. A team that played in one of the two CFBNC playoff games last season is now unranked, and is a dismally ranked offensive team stat wise. No need to go into detail re. the stats and the QB stats and scoring stats. We all know they are terrible.
Has any FBS Power 5 team ever fallen as fast as the Tigers?
All teams during games drop passes, miss blocking assignments, and fail to execute on every play. But that does not transfer to dropping from #2 ranked team to unranked and dismal offensive stats. Putting a band aid on a aorta gushing blood is not going to stop the bleeding.
It will take drastic measures to fix the problem. And in this case, I feel it requires dismissing the entire offensive coaching staff at the end of the season and bringing in an entire new staff with coaching experience with top teams or NFL experience.
Go Tigers. Beat Pitt!!!

Yep, we are like a hybrid of Alabama/LSU fans for sure. Fire Coach O while we are still sore from their whipping. And of course, you act as if missing all time great players and having an off year has never, ever happened before - unable to remember all the way back to Sunday, when LSU fired him. Pitiful, just pitiful…

It wasn’t just the losing for Coach O. There are some pretty serious “cultural” problems the LSU is trying to keep under the radar.

LSU came out of nowhere to win that national championship. That team was built through the portal. What is happening at Clemson is significantly different because we have been one of the most consistent teams in the country for 10 years. LSU had a great season. Clemson is supposed to have a great program. There’s a huge difference!

I agree, though I’m not sure the entire office of staff needs to be dismissed. It’s definitely time for Caldwel to retire and Elliott to move on. I don’t see them growing as coaches, at least not in this context. For me the verdict is still out on Grisham though the WRs have been terrible this year, but he is a young coach and has room to grow. I actually think Spiller has done a great job, considering injuries, defection‘s and a terrible line play.

The OP isn’t paid millions of dollars to have the answers.
Our coaching staff is. We are halfway through the season and they seem no closer to finding it.
This is on top of the fact that these coaches missed warning signs that this offensive collapse was coming unless something changed.
As I’ve said before, I believe our coaches will figure it out, but I don’t think they know how to do it at this point.

If going from ranked #2 at beginning of season to completely off the top 25 by game 4 and offensive stats in every category that are near the bottom of 125 teams (121 as of Oct.) is not indicative of a SERIOUS problem, I'd like to know your definition of a serious problem.
The 2021 Clemson football offense is among the worst not in the ACC, but in the entire FBS.
Those statistics get even worse if you take out the game against S.C. State.
Yeah, I'd say it is a serious problem. And calls for a serious fix.

I think we have issues that have been around for a while (OL room size not ideal, several outdated recruiting philosophies, etc..) that statistically speaking have caught up to us. Easier to hide with the elite skill or when injury bug doesn't bite as hard as it has this year....
I'm not going to repeat it again in-depth b/c I've said it many times on here....but we have a "roster management" issue. I'm not sure we need "drastic" measures as you suggest....but we need to alter some long-held beliefs. Outside of injuries...much of what we face today is self-inflected IMO and totally unnecessary. And I'm NOT talking about taking transfers...although a few here and there would'nt hurt (like Bama does). Again, not drastic change...but updating of beliefs. I do feel we need some new ideas/changes on the offensive side of the ball as well....but we got to fix our roster management issue. This will take several years IMO....

And Larry Coker was fired at the end of that season and Miami has still not recovered. Not sure LSU fell as quickly. But Orgeron is gone.
No one I know, is calling for Dabo to be fired, certainly not me. But the offensive staff is a different story. They have to be held accountable.

but we should probably wait for until the end of the season before judging the season.
Our offense has been really bad so far this year. After 6 games. We have reason to think that our offense will likely continue to be bad. Maybe it gets better. Maybe we end up with a good season. Maybe it gets worse and our season collapses. When an important decision is to be made, it's good to use as much data as possible to make a decision. It's obvious that emotion is driving the urgency.
This season is on the heels of other elite seasons. The previous 5 seasons make up one of the top 15 elite runs in the history of the sport. Most of our offensive coaching staff were behind that run. This is the quintessential example of a spoiled, impatient fanbase. It feels like the twilight zone that so many of you guys can't see that.
Why is there a sense of urgency among fans for post-season decisions to be made right now? It just seems so obvious that impatience and frustration is leading people to make all these serious, urgent declarations about coaching staff needing to be fired after 6 games of bad offense following several years of elite offenses.
Dabo stands the best chance of figuring this out. Would you really want Tigernet to take over the program and vote on choices during the season? I mean.... we are at least still on the same page that such a thing would be an utter disaster right?
Go look through the national champions over the last 20 years and tell me all the programs you want to switch places with.
FSU? Auburn? LSU? Florida? USC?
The program is probably fine. The offense sucks right now. Let the program do the work.
As it stands now, despite a crappy offense, we are 4-2 and our two losses are a possession game to #1 in the country and a double overtime self-destruction to #18. It sucks.... but I swear if you guys just relax things will be better off for everyone. Yourselves included.
When we lost to LSU in the 2019 Natty, one of the best teams of all-time, we were in that game in the 3rd quarter and Trevor Lawrence was not having anywhere near his best game. He missed throws, he fumbled too. He was 18-37. We put up 160 yards on the ground, against LSU, in the national championship game. Did Trevor Lawrence do all the blocking and running and playcalling? We had mostly the same staff. They recruited and developed that offense.
That same offense, with the same coaches, the week before, put up 417 yards against an elite Ohio State defense.
LAST YEAR.... we had the number 4 scoring offense in the country. I mean ###....
Guys.... just try and accept temporary disappointment. It will probably be ok.

Most fans realize that the coaches won’t be or shouldn’t be fired now. It’s just worrisome by Dabo and staff reactions: The offense doesn’t “stink”, TE is “brilliant”, the offense is “just a few plays away from breaking out”, DJ is great, injury excuses, it is what it is….
There’s no magic, simple answer to fix it all. But fans want to see the people in charge own it, instead of excusing it and take some kind of action. Stop the bleeding or it’s going to have a ripple effect into next season. Yeah, DJ looked a little better Friday, but that’s about it.

Go back and watch a condensed version of that game and watch their OL every play. THE MOST atrocious and consistent holdings occurred, mostly (but not exclusively) by #76, and several on scoring plays. LSU cheated in that game. It was THAT BAD. They did not win. They went down in the record books as winners, but in truth, it was not so.
They likely wouldn't have beaten Bama or Texas that year were it not for similar infractions. Joe Burrow is a phenomenal player, but their OL that year buttressed him in unfair ways.

If we keep supporting a sunshine pumping staff, we'll become Tennessee, Miami and FSU.
Those schools minimized and skim coated a trainwreck. We're not there yet, but we're headed there unless there are MAJOR changes this off season. And, if Dabo won't do it, the changes need to include Dabo.

Had a similar discussion with some other long term Tiger fans and we all agree on the following points.
YMMV
1) Caldwell is due to retire and should 2) Elliot missed his golden moment to leave, his market value has dropped substantially but a smaller school might still take a chance on him as a head coach 3) Grisham . . . . . the jury is out so far on him as a WR coach 4) Streeter needs to prove he can coach up a QB, not try to tweak. It bothers me to read that he's working on DJ's motion.
