LSU Claiming Kelly Was Not Really Fired

…but that they now plan to terminate him for cause. They have not specified any for-cause behavior. I’m not a Kelly fan, but now I’m rooting for him to get the full buyout. Also, it hurts LSU’s program, so that’s a bonus.

They offered him $30M with no duty to mitigate. But he had to play hardball.

As I said, I have no love lost for the guy, but I think he’ll get more than $30M, with a potential slander kicker *unless* they produce evidence of for-cause behavior.

The way that your link to the ESPN article read, LSU has nothing.
I hope Brian Kelly and his attorneys get every red cent out of LSU.

They can forget about getting Lane Kiffin

They may have to take Ogeron back. No decent coach will want to get involved in that mess.

I have absolutely zero legal knowledge, but it sounds like LSU may be in trouble with this move. And I am just basing my opinion on the ESPN article.

You want to fight it all out with the whole state of LA and deal with the delays, costs, and exposure of all sorts of things, then you do you.
I'm taking $30M and going to the beach and never working again.

LSU has already likely cost themselves more $ than ‘just’ the contractual $54Mn severance buy out.
LSU may have committed libel for belatedly characterizing Kelly’s firing as being ‘for cause.’
Again, according to the ESPN article, ‘for cause’ as for the LSU contract with BKelly encompasses a few different unflattering things. BK’s lawyers can assert that the absence (thus far) of new schools offering coaching deals for BK have been ‘irreparably harmed’ by LSU’s accusations of ‘moral turpitude’ or other unseemly personal character flaws.
Can LSU spell P.U.N.I.T.I.V.E.?
If LSU doesn’t get over their stupidity fast, then it’ll cost them more … not less.

People said that when Tennessee fired Pruitt for cause and denied him all the buyout money.
Josh Hueple came in and immediately turned them around from a decade + of failure within 2 years.
It bodes better for Clemson in the long run for more and more schools getting out of these ridiculous coaching contracts.

Not one single school was coerced by any coach anywhere to sign a coach to a contract that turned out to be bad for the school.
‘Coerced’ is the key word. Each school agreed to whatever contract they signed. No outside entity ‘forced’ them to sign.

Yep, that's what happens when you allow the governor to make HR decisions. I think it is quite funny.

It's pretty clear they don't deal in good faith. I don't like Brian Kelly but trying to renege on the buyout is a bad look.

If he wasn't fired, have they continued to pay him his regular salary?
Seems like aside from a conversation there should have been something in writing.
