As much as I love our defense

Sep 10, 2017, 11:29 AM

We are going to have to score more than 14 pts to beat Louserville. Let's get it done.

Louisville defense not even close to Auburn D

Sep 10, 2017, 11:30 AM

They will score more than 14. It will be the best O we face all year. If we hold them to 14 or less, we'll need to find a place for another natty trophy.

They are definitely not Auburn defensively but they are definitely not Auburn offensively either. Jackson is a really good qb and while I think we can contain him again he will score more some points.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am curious-- who would you pick

Sep 10, 2017, 11:51 AM

Right now if Louisville played Auburn? I think Auburn would take care of business. I think Clemson will take care of business! Go Tigers!!!!!!!

If you saw Jackson toss up a terrible pass like I did versus UNC under pressure you'd feel better. I might be wrong but I think we spank Louisville . Like 38-17.

I did see that. But I also watched him gain 500 yards. Not saying we won't win and we are terrible, but we will have to score points to win.

Gaining 500 yards against a below average defense is not the same as doing so against a great defense...It says more about the team they beat!!!

It is ok to whistle when you walk past a graveyard. It helps keep your spirits up. I endorse the practice.

But Lamar Jackson can be a force on the football field. He's got a terrific arm and can often scramble away from most defensive linemen trying to pressure him. He's also a terrificly shifty runner with great speed and great strength and really enviable escapability. We'll have our hands full trying to beat him and Louisville this week on their home turf.

The whole Louisville program and fanbase thinks they owe us big time. We've won 3 terribly close games against Louisville and two of them looked a lot like The Cardinals choked at the end to give us the win. Petrino and Louisville have made no secret of the fact they focused their entire off season prep on Clemson. I'm am sure we'll get a nearly superhuman effort from Jackson and his offense.

I think we can win, of course. But it will take another great defensive performance and a substantially better offense than we've played so far.

I'll be there. And I'll be nervous until the end.

Go Tigers

My take on the 3 terribly close wins against the redbirds is that we now owe them a terrible beatdown. This is the time for that beatdown.
Isn't there a saying about defense winning championships? You can bet that Dabo, his asst coaches, and our team know that the ACC championship is on the line in this game. Or, you can just take the 1.5 points and bet on the Tigers.

So you think we will handle Louisville easily because LJ threw ONE terrible pass?

Hmmmm.

I agree that Jackson's arm is highly overrated. If you can keep him from shredding you with his feet, you win. Oh, and you also have to keep their cheap-shot-happy, thuggish defense from injuring all your skill players.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He threw several terrible passes...

Sep 10, 2017, 3:38 PM [ in reply to Re: As much as I love our defense ]

And, by the way, 56-7.

Get a little pressure on Lamar and he becomes a very mediocre passer. Contain him, get some pressure on him, and he will not beat you. The tarhole defense is desperately TERRIBLE. They are nothing like our defense. Likewise, the Luavull defense, from what I saw yesterday, is quite average; quite pedestrian. They will not pressure us like Auburn did.
Cut out the turnovers, get in Lamar's face, and we win by 17.

very dangerous QB and a top 15-20 offense. I think we have a top 20-25 offense, while Louisville's D may squeeze into the top 40 or 50.

It will be a higher scoring game than against Auburn, but Clemson scores more in the end. I can see something like 31-20 Clemson.

Yesterday, we played to win taking as little risk as possible. We could have scored more points but at the risk of giving up points and our coaches decided that winning was the higher priority

I don't know what others are seeing but Jackson looks much improved in the passing game we need to score points and make him feel as if he has to do everything and start pressing. Then capitalize on his turnovers.

N.C. can hang 35 on them we should do better. And that defense gonna give another clinic. By fourth quarter Lewerville gonna be sucking like Irma is doing to Fla. peninsula, if you follow the analogy!

Re: As much as I love our defense

My only Louisville consolation this year was that Jackson had lost many of his toys and even if he was better with another year under his belt, there might be a little drop-off.

On the Clemson side, we had a new QB but his toy box was overflowing.

After two weeks of results from both teams, it's pretty easy to see just how much more important the QB is than anything that surrounds him. Even if our D plays really well, they are going to score some. I'd guess 24 would be our best case but 30 would still be a good job.

We won't find that many points playing like we did against AU. I think we have to open it up, trust Kelly to make the throws and hope for the best. If we do win this one, we ought to cruise. With no more Jacksons on the schedule, our D can dominate the rest of the conventional O's and BV seems to have figured out GT.
