It is a short window that is open in December and these guys have to make a decision and then get enrolled and relocated for the spring semester. That does not give you the luxury of a lot of time to develop a relationship like we can with HS recruits.
I agree with you that our strategy will have to change if we want to seriously compete for a few portal guys when we have the opportunity. And, we clearly won't always have the opportunity to get them on campus with the time constraints and may have to take a few more chances when evaluating them for culture fit.

Clemson was the first to offer. I don’t know how hard we pursued him after offering. I can’t imagine GA Tech has much NIL $ unless Desperate Housewives of Atlanta is pitching in.

Because if he is having surgery and needs recovery time, he has to make a decision, get enrolled and get moved for the spring semester. Just wasn't enough time after his accident.
I don't know what kind of surgery he is having, but if you saw the pictures of his vehicle after the accident, he is lucky to even be alive.

Also, is it just me or does it seem like the portal players want guaranteed playing time?
Our message has always been that you’ll be guaranteed a chance to compete for playing time & that could potentially be hurting us?
If so, then I’m glad we’re missing out on these players…but again that’s just my $0.02

The Tigers didn't get Herron or Rutledge but they got Luke which will provide more long term benefits than a rental lineman or 2.
