somewhere between oconee and chattanooga. I know there are many places on the chattooga river but i’m not looking for much white water. just a calm lazy river float.

time of year. Or ANY time of year.
I still recall a group of us from Clemson tubing down the Chatooga after the movie "Deliverance" came out. The air temp was 95, but the water temp was still cold enough to keep six packs of adult beverages cool in the water.
And, we all kept an ear out for banjo music. And made sure we didn't get too close to the shore at any point until the end.

yep. planning mid june. We’ll be escaping the lowcountry heat for some nice cool mountain water, and trading the specks for rainbows and browns and brookies

i’ve floated from orangeburg to parker’s ferry in ravenel many a times. it’s a really cool 2-3 night trip. just make sure you’re armed.
we float from givhans ferry down to the boat landing at least once a year. it’s a nice 3-5 hour trip. used to be a kickass rope swing years ago.

It’s nippy, but there are fish you can pluck out of the water as you float. It’s like an all you can eat sushi buffet.

Zen Tubing South on the French Broad just south of Asheville. It’s about a 2-1/2 hour float but there are quite a few spots to pull your tube up on a rock and chill so we are usually on the water 3-4 hours. Very calm. We go every year around Father’s Day with 10-15 people together. The bigger the group the more fun as far as I’m concerned. I think it was $25 or $30 PP last year and you can get a tube for your coolers for another $5. Then when you get done go to Sierra Nevada or Bold Rock or Mills River Brewing or 12 Bones Brewing and BBQ. It’s a great day.

Take a look at the Chatooga River section 2 between HWY 28 bridge (Russell's Bridge) and Earls Ford. Not bad at all unless there's a lot of rain before your trip. There are a few rapids but nothing major.

Maybe a little bit of a drive but check out Northwest NC. The Yadkin river and the New River are both great for kayaks.
