Ok, I have a RUNNING DOWN THE HILL COMPLAINT

Obviously most would agree that our intro of rubbing Howard's rock and running down the hill is one of college footballs most recognized entrances. Between that and the fans and the balloons.... It can be electric. Brent Mustberger even coined a phrase for it! Still.... I have a complaint.
Over the years, most long time Clemson fans have seen dozens of these opening moments. Each time, we all can agree it's special.... Every one. But... I have noticed a problem, a trend ... A bad habit if you will.... And it sucks!
Not only do our seniors and team leaders need to lead our play on the field but at the top of the hill as well. When I watched the Tigers over my life stand atop the hill prior to running down , I remember times when the players jumped and moved and Dawkined in such a way as to demonstrate fire and energy! It was as if some force was having to hold back a ### of ferocious animals stop the hill which was about to break. The sight of the players showing this Fire is part of its glory.
But over the last few years I have noticed many times when that fire isn't there on the hill. Players rubbing the rock but are just standing there. Kinda ho hum. Not showing enough energy. Some players through our programs history were masters at the top of the hill but some suck.
The top of the hill is like being on center stage before a big concert . It is a performance and should be practiced an demonstrated for the world to see like a caged tiger ready to pounce, not a kitten sitting and waiting for adoption.
Please tiger team and coaches , please fix this. Maybe someone can link examples of doin it right and doing it wrong. This needs to be addressed .
I remember several times tv has cameraed the hill before the game an there was no energy. Players just standing there. Sad and embarrassing. You have to have energy and fire on the hill. Through our history , some players did it right. Some nowadays look asleep.

It doesn't seem like that anymore. I don't have a problem with how it is now but i always enjoyed seeing coaches having to hold the players back because they were so ready to get on that field and light someone up

including the year the tradition began, and I can assure you there is enough fire and energy among the team, staff and crowd in Death Valley to warrant Brent's accolade.
And it's remain unchanged since that day in 1967.

pro football intros. They look like the old Soul Train TV shows. You can find dance moves that haven't even been invented yet.
We will be just fine....running down the hill.

Also - in CTB days - there was NO control & the fire & dance

led the team to be nearly halfway down the hill before the band started the first note of the Orange Bowl March.
THAT was REALLY terrible.
LOVE the control now - a controlled fury about to be UNLEASHED !!!

Not sure what you mean. I see plenty of fire and excitement before the team runs down the hill. Also the seniors do run down first on senior day. Other than that it's a team thing not a, what grade you are in.

the players being half way down the hill before the cannon goes off. Can't please everyone I guess.
Maybe fire extinguishers would ramp up the excitement level?

You're right programs gone to hell win 42 games in 4 years and we're not running down the Hill right. Reminds me of my ex-wife, if she won The Power Ball her response would be well if I won it last week in stead of this, I would have won 30 million in stead of just 10 million (never happy). If they win 42+ in the next four years they can roll down the Hill!

Ive been at the Hill many times, usually on the front row. My family claims they saw me jumping and entering the fray one time (on camera), but they mistook me. Anyway, what I've noticed is that there are all different personalities and modes in those players. Some are interactive and jumpy with the fans, some won't touch anyone, just walk straight ahead in "game face" mode. It's different for each one. Woody Dantzler used to walk straight ahead, no emotion. These are men going in to battle, and all display a different persona. The year of player does not matter! Even the coaches are different. All approach the rock a little differently, but all touch it. Dabo happens to be a jumping bean/energizer type, but other coaches are not so. So these are just some thoughts.

Please explain to me just how the team is supposed...

to practice running down the hill when the weather is bad? If memory serves, they did not put a "practice hill" in the indoor training facility, and you could tell by the teams lackluster game day entrances this season. Hopefully DRad is addressing this problem.

may I ask if you're basing this from a TV or a stadium
Jan 1, 2015, 9:49 AM

Perspective? Because if you're commenting from watching on TV, it could be the timing of when they chose to show it. The players know when it's getting close by watching the band and get really fired up just before. If the TV shows it the second they get off the bus, maybe they don't capture that.
Granted, it is different for, say, a SC State than it is for UGA or FSU, but that's to be expected. Even LSU isn't as raucous for a noon game against a nobody.

Although I wasn't as nice about it I guess.
I know exactly what you're talking about.
I remember when Woody Dantzler used to come out throwing punches like a boxer and Tye Hill would have a teammate holding him back like a dog on a leash.
Those were the days.
Now we get to see Dabo standing there clapping.

at the top of the hill. That makes it difficult to jump up and down. I have thought the same thing though. There are clips with Tommy Bowden holding the players back they are so pumped.
