hence the media hype. But I don't think he's physically capable of performing like he once did. If he comes back and wins, he's probably the best ever because of how much he had to overcome medically.

That's comparing apples to oranges. How bad of a back? And how bad is Tiger's knee? It's hard to say. There's no way of quantifying these things.

All I know is that Tiger's victory at Torrey Pines in 2008 was the single most impressive feat I have seen a golfer complete. To win a major with a torn ACL is nothing short of amazing. No offense, but Jack never did that.

I'd still rank Jack as best ever currently, but Tiger definitely deserves to be up there with his shortened career. And I'm not so sure that Tiger wouldn't be on top if his injuries were more mild.

ever was, even though his career may have fizzled out prematurely. Taking into account the differences in technology, playing conditions, level of competition, etc., I just think tiger on his best day beats Jack or Hogan or Jones on their best day. That's not the only way to define "best there ever was" however, and it's just my opinion anyway.

Having said that, I don't miss Tiger, because the networks absolutely hung their hats on him, and it got nauseating the way they turned every tournament into The Tiger Woods Show regardless of how he was playing or who else was in contention; it was always all about Tiger; and while Tiger may have been the best ever and dominated the game, he was NOT bigger than the game itself (minus the media). Add to that the fact that I no longer have much respect for Tiger Woods the man, I don't miss him at all.

people like you are quickly forgetting what Tiger has done and what he is still capable of. He's mid-30's... his career is far from over. He's been thru swing change "problems" before, but every time he's changed, he has won once he figured it out. However, he hasn't had the mental problems (scandal) and health issues like this. If Tiger can get healthy, he'll be Tiger again. Watch and see.

You must not be watching the same broadcast as the rest of us. They have mentioned Tiger Woods at least once every 10-15 minutes. They literally just did a 5 minute segment comparing Tiger to Jack, and the ages they won corresponding majors.

Haters gonna hate, but the truth is Tiger Woods won't be an afterthought until he retires.

I did not say it is the same coverage as if he were competing. But if he were an afterthought as you said, then there would little to no mention of him. I am simply stating as fact that his name has been mentioned over and over and over again throughout the US Open.

You may be confused as to the correct definition of the word "afterthought."

Either way, everybody is entitled to their opinions. You do not like Tiger Woods, or are at least happy that he is not competing in this year's US Open. That is fine. To each his own.

me, tiger would define it. and i am not a tiger hater, i've complimented the man several times. i just find it refreshing that he's not 12 strokes behind yet every wayward shot he would hit is televised.

Tiger opened up doors people once never thought possible. Golf ratings reached all time highs, participation amongst young men and women reached all time highs, and that was great for the game.

Look at the amount of 20-25 year old men on the PGA tour competing at an extremely high level. You can thank Tiger Woods for a lot of that. He inspired kids to pick up a club, and the PGA tour is now reeping the benefits.

Love him or hate him, he is GREAT for the game. TV ratings are significantly higher when he is playing. Ticket sales are significantly higher when he is playing. Purse size is significantly higher when he is playing. Dozens of players have publicly stated their feelings on the subject, and how they want and need Tiger to regain form.

Lastly, as an American, and a fan of all that is America, I want to see Tiger Woods put fear back into the hearts of players from around the world. I want the best player in the world to be from America, not anywhere else.

Did you ever see Jack play in person, or on tv, while in his 20's or 30's? Do you know as FACT that he never cheated on his wife while on tour? Do you know as fact that he never cursed on the course, or at spectators who flashed pictures or made noises while he swung?

Unless you can say yes to all of those questions, then your response holds zero weight.

I feel supremely confident that Jack made his fair share of poor decisions while on tour. Without the likes of ESPN and papparazzi covering him 24/7 the way they do Tiger, we will never know for sure.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

and played in front of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people over a career that spanned almost thirty years, so it's not like the world was unaware of his behavior and personality on the course. As for his marital fidelity, even though there is no evidence of it, it would not shock me if he had wandered during his many years on the road, but I would be shocked if it approached the comic book proportions of Tiger's outlandish whoring. Not to mention Jack has been married to the same woman for over 50 years.

I stated an opinion that differs from your own, and that makes me "daft" or "maroon?" I even said that you are entitled to your own opinion, to each his own. But don't you dare try and tell me that I am not also entitled to my own opinion.

When Jack was at his peak, there was no such thing as ESPN. Sports reporting was not 1/1000th of what it is today. If Jack had slept with 500 women the public may have never known. What else has Tiger done wrong? Did he kick your dog?

It's quite sad that you are on this website not to read about sports, or discuss, but instead to "battle" other Clemson fans about various topics? You should really get out more. As for me, I'm going to go sit by the pool with a cold beer and watch the Gamecocks lose to Texas A&M.
