Ian Schieffelin touchdown over under...

Set at three.

I'm going under with two. But I think Dabo tries to push him along with plenty of garbage time RZ targets.

What say you?

Under I think our OL will be able to get enough push on the goal line to not have to resort to gimmick plays.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Um, throwing to the TE for TDs is a gimmick??

Multiple chances in red zone. He will be forced targeted. But big wide body should be able to box out. I say over at 4tds for the season

I think he is going to surprise people. Just look at how good he could rebound with his hands, jumping and ability to box out taller/bigger players. Give him this 6mos in the weight room, learning schemes and routes, Schieff is gonna be an asset.

3 TDs would have been my guess so I am gonna go with over. 440yds receiving and 4 TDs.

You are delusional . He will not be a factor and will only see some garbage time minutes . If he gets playing time over our recruited tight ends then Dabo should be fired .

Dont think I am. Ian played TE in HS so he has had exposure to the position. Ian has 4yrs going into 5th yr as college athlete. We only have 2 TE's with real game experience (Sapp and Henry) but neither have a ton for being JRs plus add Sapp is really small at 6'2 / 220lbs. Sapp has hands but wont be starter at TE at his size. Pope has experience but he is the short yardage FB type player with only few catches per year.

I expect Henry and Bentacur being our main TE's with Schieff getting plenty of playing time at 6'7-6'8 / 250lbs and pretty athletic.

Optimistic, sure. delusional, I don’t think so.

Jimmy Graham and Julius Thomas both only played a single year of college. Antonio gates didn’t play a college down. There is a blueprint for this and Chef fits the bill.

I wouldn’t put much money on it, but I’m hoping for the best.

I’d stay away from that line😂

He could very well barely touch the ball

But also, if our team is as good as they think it will be…

Therefore by logic Ian will get much playing time in the 2nd half of games.

You know, if we blow lots of teams out.

Got to think about that stuff.

I think he gets two touchdowns, one late in one of those classic Clemson games where it’s not close, but we can’t quite put it away to put all the backups in, and another one on senior day against Furman

I say 4+. He was an agile BB player with great hands, and being at the right place at the right time. He defended and rebounded well againt taller players. He can manhandle 6'2" DBs. He just needs to get a good grip on the play book. With all the weapons we'll have on offense, most defenses will struggle.

Responding with “zero” does not imply that the person does not want to see Schieffelin catch a TD pass. Or score a TD on a TE-around running play. Or get a direct snap ans a blocker on the punt team and rumble 80 yards for a game winning TD.

As for the “zero” on the O/U line, I’ll take the U.

1 garbage TD is more than Zero. Still think he will shock some people this season. For some reason, I don't think this is a Dabo gimmick like letting all these Daniel HS players on the field in Garbage Time.

I would love to see him pull a Humnter Renfrow and get one when it counts, heck I hope he blows up and gets on an NFL rosty. But realistically, for him to learn how to block, run routes, learn the offense, etc is going to be tough. He has 4 years of conditioning working for him, and fantastic hands, but we have some talented TEs on this roster who are far more athletic.

one last thing, IMHO, we have the deepest, most talented WR room in Clemson History and top 2-3 in the country. We've had some great groups, with one 1 or 2 superstars and a bunch of role players. But we have 3-4 superstars on this roster,T yler Brown comes back, and Triston Smith looks the part. . If chef, were to play a role, it is as an H-back in short-yardage situations, and possibly in some special teams.

I think we are deep at WR, not sure about our TEs since our JRs have not played a bunch in the overall seasons and Sapp is very small TE. We averaged 34.7pts per game last year, my guess is that number should jump to 38-40. That is a lot of points but the pass game is going to get the majority as they are more proven group with WRS and QB. That said, I think TEs will get their shots as I dont think our RBs are ready to pound the ball. Gives Ian more chances to prove his worth.

Let's hope he rocks it out and surprises most. I played all the normal sports in HS plus wrestled as PWO (mainly got beat up, ha). I played DB 5yrs and everytime I was really challenged by WR, they were basketball players. They had ability to jump and good hands, maybe not always speed as I was usually one of fastest on team but they had good body control going up for ball. I think my experience playing DB against Bball players makes me think he will surprise most. Maybe Im just liking the Chef-hat possibilities but hope he proves many wrong.

Until I see it I’m not jumping on the Ian at TE. Maybe he’ll contribute, that would be awesome, but we have several scholarship TEs ahead of him.

On one hand I think Ian will get very little actual PT. Dabo explained how he recruited Iam to play at Clemson and not enter the draft.

1. I can make a few phone calls and get you tryouts with several NFL teams.
2. You probably won't be drafted but you will have plenty of teams willing to sign you and put you on their practice squad.
3. The NFL is not a developmental league. They use their practice squad as cannon fodder in practice, not for developing them into NFL players.

4. Come to our team here at Clemson and we will develop you.
5. Here are the physical attributes you have that can translate into NFL talent with a year of work with our coaches.
a. You don't have to stand there and let someone run into you, you can go find him and knock his block off.
b. You have great footwork staying between your man and the basket, now you can put your hands on him and push him away.
c. You have been high pointing the ball and battling against guys as tall or taller than you. Now you can highpoint the ball against guys 6 to 9 inches shorter than you.
d. You have big hands, strong hands who can catch the ball and hold onto it. You can still do that.

On the other hand I can see Ian becoming a redzone specialist. I could see him catching 12 passes all year, with 6 of them being 5 yard TD passes.

If I had to guess I would take the under. But, I wouldn't be shocked if he has 8 TD catches.

How's that for equivocating.

He has the body to be a blocking TE. I don’t see him as a guy with the speed to get the separation required to score TDs. Quick routes over the middle sitting down in zone D for short gains will be his best chances for receptions. He’s tough - he can probably take a big shot and hold on to the ball. Could be a first-down machine for us.
