Was FSU good or ND defense bad

Sep 6, 2021, 10:52 AM

Couldn’t really tell. Looked like ND got conservative in the 4th quarter

I think it was a little of both.

Also, ND offense is just a TE. Take him away and I think they are done.

ND is same old same old ND - dull boring top 10ish team

that benefits big time from media/tradition/hype. FSU is definitely on the rise - it was always just a matter of time.

ND played down to the competition. FSU is better though.***

From a Nole fan perspective.

FSU is better. Not near as many blown assignments (the first TD pass was one, but one of a few, not one of several, as we have come to expect). Not nearly as many pre-snap penalties. Didn't have 12 guys on the field, or 10 guysa on the field, or 5 guys in the backfield.

We are a long way from being elite, but we are improved at every position group over what we have been the past 4 years.

One example: Last night our DEs got more sacks in that one game than they had all of last season. Jermaine Johnson looks like the real deal.

But, the biggest difference is the attitude and culture. Any game like that in the last 4 years and the team would have folded up the tent and gone home. It would have been something like 55-14.

As for ND, the TE is a stud. But, he appeared to be the only real receiver threat. And, FSU hasn't covered a TE since 1986.

I'm not a believer in moral victories, but if I were, last night was a moral victory. It makes me optimistic that Norvell can change the culture and bring a true work ethic to the entire team.

We ain't there, yet. But, we're closer than we've been in at least 5 years.

Perfection is the goal. Direction is the test.

Good analysis Brett. Always enjoy your posts. No reason all our posts back and forth by all fans can't be decent. Pulling hard for the Noles over the Domers, but I've seen "wide left" too many times. I really liked your chances in OT with the momentum you had going. Good luck in the future.

FSU is better,

no doubt. Both teams have some problems on defense. FSU will struggle in the secondary on a team that can throw the ball around, but the RD is much better.

Agree with most of the posts. The answer is a little bit of both. Notre Dame D is not elite, but good. Seminole skill positions on Offense look great. FSU hasn’t had a respectable Oline in four or five years, but last night the run blocking was pretty solid at times, and that’s a great place to start.

I was impressed with Florida State...

not canceling the game prior to kickoff.

Like most others are saying, some of both

Sep 6, 2021, 2:54 PM

FSU is improved over last year and they showed mental toughness that hasn’t been there in recent years.

But it was still an 18 point game going into 4Q and ND took their feet off the gas on both sides. If they had stuck with the same gameplan from the first 75% of the game, they probably win by 4 scores and it’s a very different conversation today.

Also hard to get a really good read with only one data point so I may be totally wrong. FSU has a lot of toss up games on their schedule that I think they likely have more of a chance to win after last night.
