Brownell has never signed a 5 star recruit

Dabo has 3 on the roster at the QB position alone.
That's crazy.

He improved a good bit once Brad arrived, but obviously never became the player we hoped he would.

What would be Brad's pitch in trying to get a five star? Asking seriously.

Lie

Perfect example of an absolutely lie present as fact by Judge Keller. He didn’t improve under Brownell. On a per minute basis he moved backwards every year with Brownell. His senior year he had less rebounds and steals per minute than he did as a freshman and barely more points scored per minute. More tellingly, his senior year averaged almost 20% less points per minute than his sophomore year. This was a 5* McDonalds All-American. Perhaps if Brad had even attempted to play to his strengths both their stories could have turned out differently.

I saw Jennings play. And I watched him improve through his sophomore year then dramatically regress. You can put all the blame on Jennings or believe that coaches play a role in the development of their players. If you don't think coaches matter, why do you care whether we keep Brownell or not. I know why but I'm not sure you're self-actualized enough to understand your motivations. (Hint...they have nothing to do with the success of our programs.)

Brownell immediately ground our tempo down to dust.
Kenpom adjusted tempo (out of 340 or so teams):
2008 - 78 2009 - 67 2010 - 87 2011 - 248 2012 - 265 2013 - 303
Huh, what changed between 2010 and 2011?

Here you go:
Nov 17, 2022, 10:51 PM
|
|
Freshman season (Purnell): 3.3 points per game, 2.7 rebounds per game, 37.4% field goals, 17.1% three pointers.
Sophomore season (Brownell): 8.3 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, 41% field goals, 29.3% three pointers.
Junior season (Brownell): 9.8 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, 44.1% field goals, 33.3% three pointers.
Senior season (Brownell): 10.2 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game, 40.9% field goals, 32% three pointers.

he's being very careful to only posts the stats in a manner that appear positive. These aren't efficiency stats.
Per 40 minutes played:
Freshman 11.6 Sophomore 16.6 Junior 14.8 Senior 13.8
Even marginal year over year improvement from his sophomore year till senior year and he would have been an all-ACC player. Instead, he's our basketball legacy's biggest punching bad while the coach skates by.

Bust under Brownell. He improved dramatically his freshman to sophomore year. Then moved steadily backwards.

Every game that I saw Milton in, he didn't play. He was on the court, but was terrible. He was totally mis-starred. At best a 2

What is crazy about that?
Comparing Clemson basketball to Clemson football is apples to oranges. I can't think of one Clemson men's basketball coach, off the top of my head, who recruited a 5 star. Purnell was close with Milton Jennings, but he wasn't a consensus 5 star by the end of the cycle.

Very few of you youngsters had the opportunity to see Skip Wise but he could play the game......
Unfortunately he played other ‘games’ as well and had a short stay at Clemson. When he and Stan Rome were on the court together the Tigers were worth the price of admission. Even nctgr would have approved of their skills!!!

much better than they traditionally have been in football, but I don't believe Clemson has to accept that same fate in basketball. We can and should do better. I don't think we are willing to make the committment and investment needed to be a perrenial basketball powerhouse like Duke, but there's another level between that and where we have traditionally been that's very attainable.

At one time Duke was a national power in football.

So there is evidence that it can be done at Duke.
But at some point in the mid-late 1960s, the folks at Duke chose to make hoops their priority.
But, still ... they were very good in football at one time.
