To Protect And Serve

Lulz.
We've been in our current house since moving from AZ in 2013. Large neighborhood on a public golf course with branches/streets of varying house sizes and costs, all connected to a large ~4 mile loop. This loop, ______ Circle, has a 30mph speed limit all the way around. I've spent years watching people, a large percent of which are HS kids in Beamers and Jeeps, doing 45, 50, 55, and more around this loop. I wouldn't let my kids ride their bikes on the bike path next to the road when they were learning to ride because of this. In the first 7 years we were here, it wouldn't take 2 hands to count the number of cops I've seen trying to catch speeders on _______ Circle. Probably closer to a hand.
That all changed recently though, when the Chief of Police moved into the neighborhood. Don't know exactly when this was, but at some point in 2022, the police presence increased by about 4,000%. Now it's almost a daily occurrence to see them clocking or pulling somebody over. Generally speaking, I don't have an issue with this.
BUT...yesterday, 19She got a ticket for 36 in a 30. She even saw the cop, and just assumed people weren't getting pulled over for effing 6 over the speed limit. Cop informed her that they're writing tickets for anything over 34mph on ______ Circle. Seriously, they're writing tickets for 5 over. 19She still hasn't cooled down over this (and has to email our proof of insurance to remove the other $245 ticket for not having an insurance card on her). She doesn't think it's worth her time to go to court since it's a 2 point ticket which they surely won't reduce to 0 (right?), or the $76 fine.
Me, personally? I'd go to court and ask to see the radar gun calibration, AND I'd let the judge know what I think of the PD policy, coupled with the sudden convenient presence after years of people asking them to enforce speeding here. Probably wouldn't accomplish much, but at least I'd be able to unload some frustration.
But alas, it's 19She's frustration and decision, not mine, so. What would you do, Junge?

and explain your situation with it being 6mph over limit in a neighborhood you've lived in for years and only recently encountered the speed traps.
Judge most likely will reduce.
It's 25 in our neighborhood but we don't have the local po po head chieftain in the neighborhood either.

sheriff since 1998, 1 lot from his brother, and 3 lots from the former county sheriff, who knew me well as a neighbor. Violations never came up. I have been stopped for speeding once or thrice, and been let go wit no ticket. Now, this had nothing to do wit my address, it was because I was a nice guy.
But seriously, you can get your speedometer calibrated at a shop, and it's probably off. Might be worth your while.

(TL:DR it won't work out well)
and growing up in a horse farm town in the Hudson Valley, my Participation in Government teacher assigned half his grade by actually going out and doing things in the community. One of the things you could do, once per quarter, was go witness local court, bring the printed docket with you as evidence you were there, signed by the court clerk (she always signed in red pen and wouldn't sign it until YOU signed it, so no "one guy goes and photocopies it for every one" shenanigans...).
Anyhoos. It was always fun to watch the FIRST guy try to argue his way out of a speeding ticket with the "radar gun calibration" argument. Maybe this was a NY State Trooper thing, but they had that argument locked down.
Standard training as part of their work to join the State Troopers to be required to visually estimate speed within some small tolerance. Required re-certification every year.
Standard procedures for verifying equipment before and after each shift which included calibration verification of the speed detecting equipment using the tuning forks and an introduction into evidence of their calibration logs from whatever day the ticket was issued.
Once the defendant was adamant, this was fabricated, so there was a live demonstration of the current shift equipment, taken off the car in the parking lot, which was fun.
It was usually about that time that the judge would ask the defendant if they had anything else. And usually there wasn't, so the judge would thank the defendant for wasting the court's time and enforce the full penalty that the ticket prescribed.
Most of the other speeding tickets would go into arbitration before their hearing time with the officer and they would plead guilty to a reduced charge, justified by the officer as acceptable due to the defendant's remorse and promise to not do it again. Usually a "Speeding less than 5MPH over the posted speed limit" which, at the time in NY, was a cheap ticket and no points.
Local court was always fun. And, like I said, it was always that FIRST guy that argued. After that the rest of the docket usually went pretty quick.

charge like a impending flow of traffic and just pay the fine. Then the best thing to do would be to write a letter to City Council or a call to Mayor. Letters are better as it leaves paper trails. You can even go to the City Council meeting and voice your concerns.
