It was painfully obvious watching our offense last year that Leggett’s departure left a huge void at tight end. A lot of what we do is predicated on the tight end blocking or releasing in the middle and providing a target over the linebackers splitting the safeties. The screen game fell off tremendously with Milan providing the blocking for the receiver. Our inside run game was erratic when we depended on trap blocks from the tight end/ h-back. Williams return should provide an immediate upgrade in those areas. Once Galloway is comfortable in the offense, his length and athleticism should vastly improve our 3rd down options in the short passing game.

It was painful to watch at times, but I think KB lost confidence in his ability to throw downfield and just decided to tuck it and run way too much. That took away much of our offensive options with, not only TE's, but with the WR's as well. I hope we bring the passing game back up to our standards this year, no matter who gets the QB nod. Without that, we are much less special, IMO. I think KB is not the best option for a team that is so blessed with great receivers. At least that is what it looked like last season, especially after his injury. A better passing game will make our OL look a little better, too by our being less predictable.

t all offseason, and universally agreed upon that our offense is on the highest level possible when we have an elite TE. Think of the years we had Dwayne Allen, Brandon Ford, Jordan Leggett. You could even throw in Stanton Seckinger to some degree

With full respect to TigTim and other posters, no one in the Clemson Tiger football family has been more unfairly critiqued than 5th-year senior Richard. Another classy Dabo-recruited kid from a great family, Richard has some of the best hands on the team. You would never know it with the 192 QB runs and obvious play calls. The coaches chose not to use Richard as a pass catching threat in last year's offense, and for all the coaches do right, calling no plays for the TE was a small escape IMHO. Along with QB and center, the Clemson TE must understand, and adjust to more formations and defensive schemes than any on Offense.
In the Spring game, Richard was wide open by 10 yards on several plays, and on two obvious ones, was overthrown by balls nowhere near him - at least one was an easy TD. But instead of pouting, Richard was the first one to console his friend, the pouting KB. Like escape artist H. Renfrow and the rest of receiver corps, Richard is one of many underutilized in 2017 with DW4 moving on and Offense becoming QB-run focused due to lack of coaching confidence in position.
Jordan Leggett is a legit NFL'er, and now returned to health, has a good shot to start for the Jets this year. But don't shortcut Richard. He worked his butt off last year, started all year for playoff team, and given some opportunities will excel as a pass catcher. Also nice to have Williams back as a blocker, and the coaches may have Richard and Williams on the field at the same time in some formations. And as always, go Tigers!

Even if the tight ends only blocked better this year it would be an upgrade. But I do agree that the qb has to get them the ball.

We had three "legacy" type recruits that the coaches had no conficdence in, a wide receiver that was moved to TE that they had no confidence in, our best TE with a blown out knee, and our remaining option who, despite being a great young man, is one of the weakest blockers I've ever watched on the Clemson line. Thus, a major part of our offensive woes in 2017.
