Legitimate question Clemson nation

Do some research and look at all of the dynasties in College football over the last 50 years. Look at teams like Miami, Florida State, Nebraska, etc.
Look at their decline and look at our decline.
How are we different? How are we truly different than all of those national championship teams?
Why is our time not over?
Because I believe its over. We had some great years, but the facts dont lie.

There is validity to what you are saying but I think most ppl are upset how it happened bc it didnt necessarily have to yet… Dabo made some really bad hires that set us back and it snowballs bc then recruiting starts to go down. I do believe we have another run in us bc we still get some talent even though nothing like we had and recruiting has fallen off BUT I think if a lot of the changes we all anticipate happen with the right hires and we use the portal to get back until we can recruit like we used to.

I think the hardest thing to take , is like you said this ride the program was on didn’t have to end. Dabo is not an Xs and Os coach. However, he was smart enough to hire experienced coaches that knew what they were doing. As the winning took off and those coaches left for other opportunities, he got this idea he could promote from within and it worked for a while. Now, he’s tried to bring in new coordinators , but the problem are certain position coaches who have no business being at a the D1 level. I don’t even want to discuss the NIL and the Portal and hesitation to use it. We just seem to have fallen behind everybody else.

I don’t blame Tommy West for falls in the program, like some others just beforevhim. However, this Clemson team looks (to me) worst than Preister having to plow up the middle for 3+ yards 30 times in one game.

I agree with you. I think it's pretty simple money talks so people who we would have gotten will go to big money programs. I also think that these transfer players had some development over their year or two at another program. Therefore, their skill-set and immediate impact is sooner than our high school recruits.
So absolutely we're done. We all knew this day would come. The new standard will be 8-4, we'll be Texas AM or Auburn. A program that has a name, has some good history, but doesn't offer anything special. Every few years we'll get a 10 win sprinkled in there.
Well why be a fan, because Fandom is more than wins and losses. It's memories, opportunities and the pride that comes with it. Go Tigers !!!!

I’d say we are probably most similar to Florida. In that we had the title in ‘81, they had the Spurrier one in the ‘90s. And then the two, in their short dynasty in the late ‘00s. Our history would seem to most follow that.

The Packers, Patriots, Celtics, Bulls, Yankees, Tiger Woods and you pick any number of others all won and won until they didn't. I don't care what sport it is, nobody wins forever.

Our national power dynasty ended in 2021 our ACC dominance dynasty is over too, we’ve only won half of our the ACC titles this decade and now any old mid tier ACC team can beat us at home!

It was a very brief "dynasty" at that. Again somewhat comparable to when Urban Meyer had UF at the top for a handful of years in the late ‘00s. That ended quicker than our most recent power run has. Will be a challenge to see if Dabo and co. can bounce back and make us a top 10 team again next year. Seems far off now, but we should have the ability if we fix the many things needed.

I read here that Dabo built our program to have staying power.
He told us the best is yet to come, to buy all the Clemson stock we can.
He even told us that we will be the first 16-0 national champ and win more championships.
And if it doesn’t work out, he will just say that God never says oops.

What do you want a coach to say? "Just here to tell everyone, we are actually quite bad. A bad team, don’t get excited for us. Just don’t." That would make interesting television though!

I do as well, but it is going to take something drastically different from what we are accustomed. Our high school recruiting classes will not get it done. We no longer get the top positional players. We have zero top 100 players in the 2026 class. It was nice to see us being in a few portal players, but next season will be ugly if that number doesn’t double or triple. The problem is we are already at 105 when you take out the seniors and 4 juniors leaving early and add in the 26’ class. The only wiggle room that will allow for Portal offers will come from players transferring out.

So what you want us to do about it? We can be good again, the chances we go on another natty run, about the same that Miami or Utah does. They don’t happen often. Danny got one then got scholarship reductions to mediocrity, was maybe building towards another run. Then 30 years without an ACC championship. We won one last year. That’s not 30 years. If it’s natty or bust, top 5 or bust on our budget…. It’s likely bust

In almost all those cases the school fired a coach that was winning eight or nine games a year and made bad hires or their coach left for what they thought was a better job. In our peak years, I think the difference is we had very experienced line coaches on both sides of the ball. Our offensive coaches, including Chad Morris, had very little college coaching experience but great quarterbacks.

All of this is true. But I also see that we are one great quarterback/diamond in the rough from being right back in it. Nothing can make a team rise out of mediocrity like a great QB. They don’t all come with 5 stars. We thought we were coming up with aces with DJ and CK. More like a pair of hearts. Mostly luck of the draw/in game experience over significant QB development. See: Diego Pavia, Trinidad Chambliss, Cam Ward. Although I would be excited to see a true quarterback whisperer type coach on our staff. A game changing quarterback with strategic usage of the portal to fill key positions with talent/experience and depth = playoff contention.

Clemson’s Run Isn’t Over—It’s Just at a Crossroads
Let’s be real. Comparing Clemson to the fall of Miami, FSU, or Nebraska misses the mark. The game has changed. The rules, the incentives, the way programs are built—it’s all different now.
1. The Landscape Is New
NIL, the transfer portal, and playoff expansion have flipped college football on its head. Those old dynasties collapsed under a system that no longer exists.
Clemson isn’t stuck in the past—we’ve built a national brand, recruited coast to coast, and proven we can win in the playoff era.
2. Clemson Has What It Takes
Clemson and FSU are the only ACC schools with SEC-level facilities, support, and investment. That’s a fact.
But Clemson has something FSU doesn’t: a decade of playoff success, a stable coaching staff, and a culture that’s been tested and proven.
3. The ACC Is a Launchpad, Not a Limiter
The ACC might be weak, but that’s exactly why Clemson should be in the playoff hunt every year.
If we’re not, it’s not because our window closed—it’s because we’ve got to adjust. The opportunity is still there.
4. A Dip Isn’t a Death Sentence
Every great program hits rough patches. The question isn’t whether it’s over—it’s whether we’re willing to evolve.
Clemson has the tools, the support, and the track record. We’re not done. We’re just at the point where choices matter.

What’s different is this is self imposed. A choice has been made to not use all available tools for success. Dabo Swinney put his emotions and stubborn belief system ahead of the program. An arrogance equivalent to a prize fighter being so confident in his abilities, that he thinks he can win the heavyweight title with one arm tied being his back.
It’s hard for me personally to envision this man doing anything different. He has Clemson over a barrel. If you don’t like it, fire him, and pay him his 60 million.
I believe Dabo had between now, and when the clocks runs out in Cootville to decide what he wants to do.
If he knows in his heart that this isn’t fun anymore, and it’s not for him and never will he under these circumstances, he needs to step down.
I doubt any of you, all very knowledgeable fans, believe there is any hope outside of complete and thorough change, or Dabo stepping down.

The part that is stabbing me is not that we are not title contenders, but to be at the bottom of the ACC so quickly is inexcusably painful.
