Wish him the best but

Mar 23, 2013, 9:29 PM

Brownell is no Dabo.

I would love to see Brownell succeed at Clemson.
My opinion is now that I don't know that he's got the personality to do it here.

He can definitely coach. I'm not sure he will continue to build the tradition, recruit to Clemson's strengths, and to win over fans.

I hope I'm wrong.

What eactly are our strengths to recruit too

Mar 23, 2013, 9:47 PM

I love Clemson basketball, but...

Very little tradition
Outdated facilities
League about to get much better
Little high school talent in state
Poor player development in state high schools
Football first school

Clemson is at it's best with veteran teams. We've seen what BB can do with a team with 4 solid vets, Stitt, Grant, Young and Smith in his first year. Right now in 2 years he's slated to have 4 seniors(KJ, Hall, Sullivan and Harrison if he stays), 5 juniors(Coleman, Roper, Filer, Nnoko and Smith) and 4 sophomores(Blossingame, Rooks, Ajukwa and whoever we sign.) Their may be some attrition, namely Harrison, but we're looking at 3 straight years with vet squads at that point. That's the kind of teams Brownell will win with

We'll see some jucos coming in from now on. He's already offering some.

The definition of awesome!

We'll see. OP offered Ricardo Ratliffe who went to Missouri

Mar 24, 2013, 2:06 PM

but in the end he couldn't qualify here

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We will definitely

Mar 23, 2013, 10:21 PM

Have a veteran team but will they be talented??? Other schools weren't really dying to have the talent we signed. Sad but true.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We know from what we're watching tonight

Mar 23, 2013, 10:27 PM

you don't have to have 4-5 star recruits to win. Some of our best players, Larry Nance, Horace Grant, Grayson Marshall, Vincent Hamilton, Cliff Hammonds, Greg Buckner even Trevor Booker were 2-3 star guys. Do we have talent, yes we have some. KJ, Filer, Roper, Coleman, Blossingame all have good ability. What we didn't have this past season was leadership and a cohesive team

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we also don't have a good starting pg at this time***

To me, that's the most important battle this off season

Mar 24, 2013, 2:48 PM

Hall: he either needs to make drastic offensive improvement or we surround him with big time shooters. Love his intensity but still think he's a back up

Filer or Roper: Both are more combo guards right now. They will get a ton of work at the point this off season. Both offer the offensive side Hall does not. Filer is a better defender than Roper. Both played like freshmen, ie: inconsistently, but both have ability. Question is can they be a true lead guard? if one can, that's huge for us

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We will definitely

Leadership

Mar 23, 2013, 11:07 PM

Starts at the top. Brownell is a very like able guy. You just have to be an exceptional salesman to bring bb talent to clemson. He simply can't recruit and I am telling u I can't stand USC but that guy is going to bring talent to that team no matter what obstacles are in the way. You also have to have a little fire to be a bb coach at clemson. Back in the day Barnes had it figured out. He got people to games. I agree it is a really tough gig and there are many obstacles. It will take a salesman, creativity and lots of fire to be a successful coach at cu.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You need to watch his year end presser

Mar 24, 2013, 8:12 AM

speaks very clearly that teams must be player led, coaches are not on the court. We had no upperclassmen leadership and it hurt us a lot. Fire? Just because a guy doesn't get T'd up and throw tantrums on the sideline and in the media(see Frank Martin) doesn't mean he isn't passionate. As for Martin at SCU. he signed Thornwell, the best player in the state this year. A high 4 star guy and someone we wanted. Other than that, he's signed 2-3 star guys and is now scouring prep schools to fill out the roster for next year to account for the 4-5 guys who will be leaving the program. They are going to need extreme patience there as well as they are a long, long way from being competitive

Looks like Martin may get Demetrius Henry and Reggie Theus

Mar 24, 2013, 9:39 AM

Jr. to go along with Thornwell.

Martin appears to be a much better recruiter than Brownell.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Henry is still a heavy Miami lean. It's possible he

Mar 24, 2013, 2:09 PM

goes to SCU but that's far from a done deal. Haven't heard anything on Theus. They had 3 visitors over the weekend but none of them committed

Martin did a great job of recruiting when coaching that high school in Miami. Won a championship only to have to forfeit it for cheating.

Most cheaters DO tend to recruit well...***
