Hell yeah!! Tell'em Dabo!! That was a #### poor effort I saw Saturday. Painful to watch some of that on both sides of the ball. Gonna be a long season if that kind of play continues.

They've had a coach on the side lines that needed a get back guy to keep the DC contained from the excitement he had for the game, and now they have a DC that needs somebody to shake him up to try and get him excited about something, anything, if that's at all possible!!! Our DC is to laid back, and it's showing through his players in how they play!!!

I’d like to see how Wes handled his group before and after Dabo ate them alive.

Dabo coaching Wes, not all about x&os, got to manage the intensity. In their defense hard to get up for second game in short week but it’s part of the coaching challenge. Yes Venables spoiled us with his unmatched energy. Don’t expect Wes to be Venables but he needs to raise the energy a notch.

I thought Wes did get animated at times Saturday. Kind of surprised me honestly.

Wes isn’t CV. He’ll never have that intensity because that’s not his personality. My point is I wonder how Dabo approached Wes and how Wes responded. Different territory for CDS. I think CV handled most of it without having to assert himself. Just speculation though.

Glad he did this. Now how about add the OL and WR to the mix. They were just as terrible, maybe more so.

I've noticed Dabo tends to treat the offense w/ kid gloves..

(at least in the media) not sure why, but I agree the defense AND the WRs/Oline deserved the same chewing.

The defense has been the one getting all the raves in pre-season and he took them down a notch. He wants to nip that ego and pride thing right away before they lose control and before they get humbled by the better competition that is coming up. The offense probably is the one with the opposite problem where the confidence actually has to be built up because expectations are so low, especially at QB. It is a fine balance for sure.

We know Dabo has the gift. Still it's a way to lose the team. Defense outplays Offense every day and night and gets ripped. Soft Offense is praised and played like crap the entire 2nd half.
I noticed last week a Tnet poster suggesting Wesleychick had more value in the sky box identifying Offensive schemes than he did on the sideline. May be something for Dabo to consider -- anyway, Go Tigers!

I think the whole thing about defense is to take the spot light off the lackluster offense. Don't get me wrong, I think the defense needed to be addressed, but I have not seen Dabo handle the offense in this way. As poorly as they have played including the QB, you don't see Dabo jumping down their backs. I just think he is tired of making excuses for the offense and this thing with the defense gave him an opportunity to shift the focus off the offense.

Well that did score every time They had the ball and DJ was QB in the first half. I guess once in the 2nd. Then an interception and a fumble. They did not get the ball in the 2nd half because the defense could not stop Furman.

I posted about the poor effort on D and many said I was "too critical".......now after reading what Dabo said, glad to see he saw the same things I did. There should be an azzchewing and there should be players held accountable for poor effort/bad technique. Credit to Furman for playing well but honestly, with the talent level we have, very disappointed in how that defense is playing right now.

Because so many problems of the offense boils down to our scheme and playcalling. Considering that casts Streeter and himself in a bad light, you won't hear a word.

Our offense could not stay on the field. Sure we only had a handful of drives in the second half but none except the TD were sustained. That’s not the fault of the defense. Not saying the D played well they didn’t but the offensive struggles can’t be put on their shoulders too.

why didn't Mr. Goodwin make similar comments? His were soft with not much of any mea culpa, or much gravity placed on the players for things like loafing and being not ready to play and still at the "H. Garden Inn". I'm more concerned about our new D Coord. than any one else. BV, you're missed badly already.

Jeff Davis used to say back when he played that........

the defense's goal was to always register a "goose egg" against the other team's offense. He would say they always wanted to shutout the other team and were embarrassed if a weaker team scored on them at all.
That's what this defense needs to do. No way Furman should have scored any points. And this weekend the D needs to make it their goal to give up no points.
I know it's hard to get motivated against a weaker team. That's why the D needs to set their own goals and motivate themselves.

Who's the on field leader? Need a field general to chew some *** when they need it. Haven't seen it. Somebody needs to step up and be vocal. Wes can't be out there obviously and they're struggling to stay focused. Maybe they get it now but going forward we need that to happen. You're a great defense. Hold each other accountable. Demand it.

Yes the offense only scored once in 2nd half. I get it, but I remember at one point LATE in the game, the Tigers had only ran 17 plays to Furmans 40 plus plays. The problem with offense in 2nd half was the DEFENSE could not get off the field due to 3rd down conversions. That’s why Dabo is so upset with the defense.

You HAVE to add in the fact that we played 2 games in 5 days. I only played high school football and I can tell you...those 2 extra days probably cost the Tigers in desirability to play which left a lackluster performance. That was Furman’s Super Bowl! We shall see Clemson back against a La Tech football team and the outcome WILL show on the scoreboard....we were ready to play.Mark my word.

We’re “trying to build confidence” with the offense and kid gloves. Last year the D was blamed although playing most of the game.

No more excuses: we have a normal week of practice, we've got 2 games under our belt, and we play another team we are supposed to beat by at least 24 points, the same spread as GA Tech. This is the week we need to put it all together because our pre-season is over and the real competition starts coming our way.

Guys can you not see how this works
Sep 13, 2022, 3:48 PM
|
|
If you spent any time in the military I'm sure you've seen this. Other jobs and teams too but I know the military side better.
You have a soldier that maybe doesn't have the confidence you want to see. So when he's doing okay, you build him up some. He starts believing in himself. You point out the bad, not dwell on it. You praise the good. He builds more confidence, he gets better. On the flip. You got a guy that's a super soldier, expert marksman, knows his shytte, great PT, etc. You expect darn near perfection. He knows he's got it. You know he's got it. Every one of his peers looks to him as the standard, sets the tone, the guy that people see as an example, always doing the right thing. But he falls down on the job. Just screws the pooch and his peers feed off that and they lay down on he job too.
Sure, you get on the other guys and point out the bad, find the teaching points. But when you get to your tone setter you treat them a little different. You kn9w they respond different because they know everyone looks to them. They set the pace. They uphold the standard. They know they laid down on the job. They will respond because that's who they are.
It's leadership. It's knowing your people. Knowing how they respond to their own mistakes and it being pointed out that their effort sucked.
I'll be honest here. I've watched this defense a lot. I've not missed watching a game in the last 10 years. I've noticed something in the last 3 or 4 however many seasons he's been there but EVERY time Tyler Davis is out our defense comes up lacking. He is the glue for this D. Go back and watch just about any game without TD you'll see it. He's the Grady Jarrett of our Defense. He is relentless and our other 10 feed off of that. He never quits. He does darn near everything perfect and just like Jarret gets overshadowed. Someone will get hm in the draft 3rd or 4th round and they will steal a blue collar, multi year pro bowler.

Your comment about Tyler Davis is so true. The D is a different animal when he is in the game. Let's hope he is ok and will be on the field for our final 10 games of the regular season. Go Tigers.

At this point everyone needs to not expect Davis to be out there. Unfortunately he's proven himself to be injury prone. Just be thankful for any snaps he takes in any games for the rest of the year
