Kaepernick and Boyd

Jan 14, 2013, 1:42 PM

Seeing some of the game and hearing some of the analysis after it, the question came to mind, will Kaepernick's success open the door for Boyd? To me, Kaepernick reminds me of a better Boyd. Similar pass first, but I'll beat you up with my legs, ability and, on its face, just a fairly similar style.

Lately, this type of QB has gained some popularity, and success, in the NFL with Kaepernick, RGIII, Wilson, etc. Seems to me that this has the possibility to really play into Boyd's favor.

Am I stupid?

Kaerpernick in no way, shape, or form reminds me of Boyd. Have you ever seen Boyd play?

I have no idea. All I know is that Boyd does not compare to Kaepernick at all. Well they both play qb so you got me there.

Kaepernick is 6'5 and has a 4.53 40 time

Jan 14, 2013, 1:49 PM

There are similarities. but the big knock on Boyd will be height. You are right that the league could be moving toward more athletic QBs like Russell Wilson, Griffin, and Geno Smith. Wilson and Griffin were big winners in college too. Boyd has a solid record as a starter as well.

I cringe about the height thing with any qb. what people say is so bogus. almost no qb is tall enough to completely see over or throw over every DL. the passing game works in lanes created by moving the dl when you block them. Drew Breese, RGIII, and numerous others show this is not a height only position. better to be tall- yes. essential - no

Not many QBs may be tall enough to see over the line, but it's much easier to dunk if you're 6'5 vs 6'0...and it's the same with QBs getting a better look over the line.

Of course there are many other factors, but taller QBs are hold a distinct advantage over their shorter counterparts.

Cowherd said today SF should draft Boyd for the backup job.

Jan 14, 2013, 1:50 PM

Caught the tail end of it, but I believe that was the gist.

throw harder. Kaepernick is a unique animal. He's like a taller, slightly slower Mike Vick, minus the dog murdering. So nothing like Vick either. Um... I'm lost.

Re: Kaepernick and Boyd

Kaepernick looks like an athletic freak. He's an absolute beast of a qb from a physical standpoint, and his running ability is ridiculous. Boyd might get there some day, but he still has a lot of work to do. His height may hinder him some, but there are other qb's in the pro's who are shorter and still successful. Definitely an adjustment period and some qb's just have the "it" factor, but I don't know what helps them to develop into that role.

No, I think you're right. There is a new breed of QB infusing into the NFL, and Tajh fits that mold. I look for Tajh to be highly sought after, since making the correct decision to come back.

Boyd reminds me a whole lot more of Donovan McNab. Similar body type, throwing ability, and athletic ability. Kepaepernick is just a freak. Still think Boyd can be a quality NFL guy.
