Just curious as to your opinions.

Disclaimer: We'll never know. The coaches will look at the tape and evaulate far better than I ever could. But, I'm a fan. So, I'll form an opinion and express it.
Stat: 19 rushes for 32 yards.
If you had to place a % blame on it how would you grade the following possible reasons?
1. Poor game plan. 2. Poor play calling. 3. Lack of talent at RB. 4. Poor play by OL. 5. Poor play by Klubnick.
I think it's a combination of all of the above, but I think one stands out head and shoulders above the rest. I would place 80% of the blame on the poor play of the OL. They seemingly (to my uneducated eyes) got manhandled on running plays AND on passing plays. Cade was only sacked twice, but he was running for his life on numerous occassions. I don't know how many times the DL of LSU would be given credit for "QB pressure" but I'm guess it was 15 to 20 times.
Someone asked in another thread why no one is talking about Matt Luke. I'll just say this, I'll bet he got less sleep last night than any other coach on the staff. I have no doubt that Dabo will hold him accountable, Riley will hold him accountable, and Luke will hold himself accountable. The question will be can the coaches convince the players to hold themselves accountable. That's the ultimate test of a coach. It's not enough to identify the problem and the solution. It's a matter of convincing the players to buy into the solution.
So, I say 80% of the blame for the offensive woes goes to poor OL play. What say you?

We have a WR trying to masquerade as a RB. We should throw in that towel and get some younger guys the experience. OL is certainly part of it but the combination of the two equals no running game.

None of the guys we have score on that td run… he looked good limited in the Texas game but 4-5 rushes a game and one carry in the second half ain’t gonna cut it… if he had 15 carries for 30 yards I’d agree but we never tried to make him part of the gameplan.

He can be helpful in short yardage and as a 5th receiver out of the backfield but he is no starting RB for any decent P4 team.

I thought he was strong and fast like Derrick Henry. That's what I read before the game.

Well we only had like 8 rushes from RBs and I believe 4-5 from Randall with 19 yards so he never got a chance… I’m not defending the OL bc they didn’t play well but Cade bailed alot of times unwarranted instead of standing in there and delivering the ball. Some of the rushes were those DA qb stretch runs that have never worked with Cade… the draw has worked some and all for the option read or draw sometimes but that stretch qb run needs to be scrapped completely.
Iv said it multiple times with a veteran qb and OC and that was the best we got gameplan wise with an entire off season ?! I mean they constantly brought pressure and there was no answer from Riley … no quick game no screens or anything to help Cade. They realized they could get a mismatch on those shallow crossers and even with pressure that’s hard to stop And that’s what they did. Watching the smu first half and Texas game this play calling was nowhere near what I expected , I was predictable and boring with no options for Cade… and Cade missed some wide open guys in those situations a couple times too so a lot is one him… he should be better at this stage. I saw improvement from the defense but still worried about speed in certain positions and some very bad angles especially from Lukus on running plays.

Randall 5 runs, 8yds and 2 rec for like 14 EZE 2car for like 3yds Adams 2car for -2yds
Wesco and Brown had few carries for few yds
Cade had I think 3 designed run plays.
All of this for 19yds Rushing. How is any run game gonna work when we dont call run plays.

I'll have to disagree with you. The issue was the playcalling. The o-line was holding their own in 4 man rushes.
Go rewatch the game, Riley was calling long developing plays when LSU was blitzing practically every down. There was almost zero quick passes to the boundary to stretch the defense.
LSU like all elite coaching teams know our weakness. Drop heavy into coverage to buy time for your DL to get to the QB. Even NFL OL can't hold out for more than 3-4 seconds.

When you can’t run the D just pins their ears back and comes after you. They figured that out in the 2H and adjusted for it.

Yes, it was play-calling but also schemes.
As you noted, our OL pass protected well when LSU didn’t blitz. Early in the game, though, LSU saw that our offense was clueless about how to deal with the blitz.
So they blitzed and blitzed and blitzed again. We were clueless all night about how to deal with it.
Did we start running blitz-defeating plays like shovel pass and a few varieties of screen passes? Nyet. I’m not sure whether we have the shovel pass in our playbook.
Riley’s schemes too often rely upon a WR on a deep pattern consistently beating the opponent’s defender to a contested ball. For this to work more than just ocassionally, the pass must be accurately thrown to the correct spot. We had a couple of those work, a prominent ‘shoulda been caught’ incompletion when Wesco was unable to corral the pass that hit both of his hands. Too often, the pass was simply not close enough to create a ‘contested psss advantage’ situation for us.
There were several times when CK2 and the WR target at any given play were not in synch with each other. Sorry, but that indicates less than acceptable coaching.

Don’t buy the hype with them. Bama was way overrated. FSU’s QB will be injured by game 5 and Bama had figured out Gus’ offense by the 2nd half they just couldn’t score because Bama’s QB sucks like Cade.

I try not to say anything about FSU on this board unless asked. (The last thing I want to do is have anyone thinking I'm a troll.) With that said, it was a great, and very surprising win.

Without a doubt this loss is squarely on the O Line. Unable to create holes for rushing led to continual blitzing resulting in no consistency that absolutely destroyed the game plan with evidently no plan b and killed our defense (AGAIN).

Its 100% lack of talent at RB. Why in the world Dabo did not poach a RB when he had a chance in the offseason is crazy.

It's Garrett Riley. Every play is contested with nothing easy. Great OC will find easy chunk plays throughout the game. Cade could of scrambled to the left the whole game for big gains. He always went to the right and got nothing. His offense always struggles against good teams. He seems lost.

When we play a team that is on par with us. The offense goes 3 and out in what seems like a minute thirty of tv time for multiple possessions. Usually this pattern occurs after the defense holds but has given up 2 to 3 first downs. It's astounding to watch that when the offense gets the ball back they almost immediately throw 3 straight times where they attempt to gain 10+ yards a throw. No attempt is made to ever take easy yards whether underneath or by running.

G.Riley’s offense is highly dependent upon our WR being flat out physically superior to the opposing team’s DB. When this situation is in place, Clemson WR wins the contested pass.
When the opposing team’s DBs are of comparable physical ability (and also well coached, as is usual when we play a high quality opponent), then Riley’s scheme becomes a low probability for success endeavor.
Over the previous 2 seasons, G.Riley’s abilities as a OC have been revealed as a bit better than average. He’s not a bad OC; he is not very good by any stretch.
2025 season is G.Riley’s best Clemson team as far as offense; remember how in 2024 season P.Mafah was injured by ~ mud-season, and with that injury our run game disappeared. 2023 season was when CK2 was, quite simply, not yet ready.
If Riley’s offense cannot perform at a high level this year (I.e., against the handful of high quality teams on our schedule), then the G.Riley experiment will have been unsuccessful.

If it’s not poor play calling/game plan, then what is it?
We’ve heard the ravings about Davidson, yet we use a former WR as the starter. The O-line has a lot of starts under their belts, so it can’t be a lack of experience. This is Klubniks’s 3rd year in Riley’s offense - QB play like we saw last night is expected from a player making his first start, not a 3rd year starter QB
Personally, I think it’s the OC - I don’t think Garrett is truly leading the offense, and I don’t know how one could honestly say his scheme works. As a result you have a disjointed group of units that don’t gel, and you get the product we saw last night.

I can’t say 100 pct. You have to scheme some plays to make them pay for sending extra guys every snap. Why do we not run any traditional screen passes?

It would pretty much be in the order you listed:
-Poor game plan/Poor play calling. 70% -Poor play by OL. -Lack of talent at RB. -Poor play by Klubnick 5%
Play calling failed to punish the heavy blitz scheme by LSU. Many times LSU would bring 5 or 6 men in the box and blitz. Middle of the field was wide open for delayed middle screen or drags or slants. Instead we had long developing plays. Offensive line wasn’t great but you can’t expect a line to block 6 men for long. RB talent wasn’t amazing but it’s hard to develop running game with that many men in the box unless you can make them back off. They basically flooded the box and were going to make Cade beat them. Cade didn’t beat them, but I don’t fully blame that on him. His play calling left him stranded waiting for long developing routes to finish while he scrambled for his life.
Overall while none of these groups played exceptional, the talent is there for a better performance that what we saw. That clearly makes this an issue of game plan and play calling more than anything else. For years we’ve complained our offense is too straight forward, no misdirection or taking what the defense gives you. We think we can line up and exert our will. That isn’t an easy task when you’re facing a top 5 or top 10 team in the nation. We need to actually scheme to take advantage and counteract what defenses do

It was the first game of the year. Nobody expects to be perfect. But a running game & the offensive line needed to make it work needs REPETITION to "gel". How many carries did the starter get last night? How many carries did ANYBODY get? And what were the down/distance situations when those carries were given? It looks to me like the Clemson coaches were more concerned with getting Cade "Heisman stats" instead of developing a running game.
