Just call me Nostradamus

Within the week, we will see people who claim to not be racists make the comments "well if he wouldn't have resisted arrest/followed the law/etc, he wouldn't be dead" in reference to what happened in Minneapolis.
These same people applauded the white guys staging a protest at the state capitals with armed militia.

Resistance does not equal death. I think we can all agree on that.

Either defend the guy who resisted arrest for ten minutes or defend the cops who killed a guy seemingly by accident? I guess I'd side with the resisting arrest guy since that's less unethical than manslaughter, but I don't love these options.

Same. I mean, if you are going to resist arrest, you open yourself up to a myriad of things that could happen. White or Black, really doesnt matter. If white dude in the trailer park resists and gets beaten to a pulp or even dies, no one really cares.
There is just so much emphasis on white cops killing black men, I cannot understand why these cops would put themselves in this position. I mean taser the ever living heck out of the dude instead of putting your knee on his neck for what feels like eternity.
The other option is to just let him go. Right? Dont taser, don't punch, don't shoot. So the option is to let him go. I mean, the optics of that is terrible and you open yourself up to more scrutiny if he goes on a killing spree.
Really tough position that the OP and people try to turn into a simple one just to scream racism at someone to make their life seem better.

and exhaust alternatives where the suspect is not continually and directly threatening the safety of others. It seems in a small fraction of cases that the resistance has been neutralized. The continuation of the type of force to cause death appears excessive. However the entire timeline and details need to be investigated. Resisting arrest puts law enforcement officers in terribly difficult and complex situations. Given the emotions, assisting officers have important roles as evaluators of appropriateness of the arresting interactions, and as necessary to intervene. That intervention can help both the suspect and the law enforcement officers _ meaning careers and personal lives are not ruined.

But really it just pisses them off. Which I believe is what happened here. Probably has nothing to do with the color of his skin, and more about power trip cop wasn't being obeyed and he lost his ####.

The good cop / bad cop ratio

seems like it can change on a moments notice. This guy probably saw LA Confidential the night before and was trying to find his inner Russell Crowe.
There is probably a personality test to predict which people would engage in this kind of brutality, but the job requirements make the line between good and bad a very thin one.

sigh! so many people seem to be missing the point
was he resisting arrest? yes he was. the issue is once he was in cuffs, and "arrested" he was flat on his belly with a full grown man's knee on his neck. what was the guy gonna do flat on his belly face down? the cop was just pissed and looked to be enjoying it for several minutes, while the man said "I cant breathe". He was angry and felt disrespected and gonna teach this man a lesson....
So many of these officers seem to want to teach a guy or gal a lesson and show them not to disrespect the cops. AND so many of you seem good with that. The police are sposed to enforce laws, not go out there and teach lessons to people. So many police offers have abandoned "to serve & protect" for "command & control” and so many of you seem to be ok with that. Then they wander why people dont respect or trust the police

I can get down with this. Not a huge fan of cops as I have seen some things late night in Detroit that are tough to forget. There are some really bad people wearing a badge and sometimes it’s hard to say if there are more good than bad.
No one wants to say that, but it’s true.

That is true. I used to take a Karate class with a couple of cops 40 years ago. One was a great guy and the other was training to kick as*.
Later, that same cop was arrested for stealing from the evidence room. Money, guns, drugs...he took a lot. He then went to prison.
There are some great, great cops. I admire their sacrifices and their diligence in trying to keep people safe. But like any vocation, there are some really scary, criminal people wearing a badge. It's true of any profession.
Also, I agree with the point you made about tasing people. It works, and it works well. But instead of that, the officer with his knee on the man's neck...that is just a bad man who needs to pay for what he did. If the guy resisted, tase him. He'll go down, and won't get up.

Not sure what the issue is here. The officers were fired, and are most likely going to prison for a very long time...
Is there something to argue about? This isn't a case of the police trying to make the case the department was justified in any way.
But some people just like to stoke the flames of racism.

What’s the issue? Really??? 1st off who knows what will happen to these guys. Often cops get fired and rehired at another precinct nearby. BUT almost always nothing really comes of these kinda things. It just gets swept under the rug or forgotten about til the next time a person dies in police custody.
There is a systemic issue with police departments all over the country. They are out of control. And lots of people stand by and saying “they shoulda did what the cop said” I know that POC get targeted more... stats can attest to that, but it’s not all about race. Even black cops can be some of the worse to other POC
I know some police officers and have talked to them about some of these issues, and they agree that there are some people that get caught up in their emotions and sometimes another officer has to step in. 1 friend said he rolled up on a scene where another cop was wrestling with a guy and he helped get him in custody. My friend decided to take the guy back to the station in his car because he feared for the guys safety with the heated cop that was yelling “i’ll kill you”. The cop was heated and felt disrespected. The only way this stops is when good cops stand up and set bad cops straight, which is easier said than done

I’ll wait to see how this one plays out. But I was speaking generally. There’s a LONG list of situations that happen daily... many of which don’t even get caught on camera. So cops can make up whatever BS they want in their reports. This cop (s) should lose their pensions, and sent to jail by a jury, for a very long time. Also every precinct, city/county should have to pay though the nose to until they stomp this kinda crap out. Excuse me if I’m not optimistic that any of those things will happen

As I said this is systemic. Due to lack of training, and or sweeping investigations under the rug. So ultimately who’s faults that? The Blue wall is real. Cops protecting other cops, and so on and on. This didn’t just start happening, its been happening for yrs and yrs. it’s just now that so many of these things are caught on camera. These bad actors are just doing what they’ve always done, and what they were taught to do, from cops that came before them.
So how do they pay? Through law suits (punitive damages) of course.

apparently you missed the part about good cops should stand up to the bad cops...so theres that. but yeah it is systemic, and the only way to stop it is to stop letting it happen, and thats on the depts
