In the 50's most kids wanted to grow up to be a spaceman or a fireman or drive a train.
As a kid I aspired to be this guy.
Not the one in front, but Sam who got to work the beer tap.

Not one to argue, but Sam was Frankenstein. . Sam could have carried Ms Kitty off anytime he chose, being a gentle man, he did not.

When the teachers were not allowed to use red ink to grade papers any longer because it was too harsh. And when Roadrunner and Wylie Coyote had to be removed from TV because it was too violent. Of course someone was afraid a 5yr old might drop a 100lb anvil on somebody's head.

I remember in the 1950's in Greenville we could go to cowboy movies at the old either Roxie or center theater on Main Street for 6 coca cola bottle caps.My hero's were Roy Rodgers and Gene Autry.

Most don't know how big of a star he was. No one topped that until ELVIS.

You maybe right, but I remember it was the Carolina theater on Main that you could get in for 6 Coca Cola bottle caps on Saturday morning. My brother and I would stop at the little convenience store on the corner of Park and Main and empty out the cap remover box on the drink machine to get out bottle caps. Saw many a movie at the Roxie too. Most of my friends remember it costing $.10 to get in the movies then, but I remember it costing $.09. For a quarter you could go to the movies and have enough for a Charm sucker and a drink.

My mom use to tell me about growing up in Charlotte and going to the movies every Saturday morning. For a quarter she could get in the movie and get a drink and popcorn or candy 😳. I thought that was so crazy. She died in 2022 and would have been 82 years old now. She loved old western TV shows and watched them up until she died. She said they reminded her of her childhood.

Ken Curtis aka Festus took over the lead singer role with the Tommy Dorsey band for a period after Sinatra left. He also sang in a couple John Wayne movies. There is also a U-tube video of him singing Tumbling Tumbleweed in his Festus attire.

Saw the original segment when John Wayne introduced Arness as the person to play Dillon and viewed all the episodes with Dennis Weaver as Chester. Peter Graves of Mission Impossible was Arness's brother.

JW was the guy they wanted, but in the day was a huge Movie Star. He recommended JA as they had worked together in a movie.
JW did the opening dialog on the first show. That made us all sit up and watch.
No one is Matt Dillon in the real world as he never backed down and could back his play.

James and Peter both served with distinction in WWII. Didn’t even know they were brothers until about 10 years ago.

Eddie Van Halen. A guy that lived down the hall from me went to interview to get into med school. They asked him who his hero was and he said Eddie Van Halen. Upon telling us that we said well maybe you can go to dental school because that answer wouldn't do. But they let him in. This was the early 80's and either they didn't know EVH or thought that was a good honest answer.
