Jaelyn Lay

Aug 1, 2019, 4:30 PM

Extremely shocked to see his weigh in with how athletic he looks physically. No wonder the coaches talk about him being probably the most physically impressive freshmen we've had. If he can put it together this season could you imagine how many coot players he can carry into the endzone at 6-6 273 pounds?

LB's gotta cover him down the seem ?

Aug 1, 2019, 4:32 PM

Good lick with that. If he blocks like Leggett, he'll be a success, just get in the way .

I agree. Just block for TL and the others. The Tigers are loaded with great receivers. Tight end really doesn't need to catch one pass.

But we shouldn't rule out big, talented tight ends as receivers. Good way to lose top them as recruits. When they are a receiving threat, it just provides an additional worry to the opposing defense. Hard to understand why we would pass this up.

Against teams with better Secondaries than Bama a good TE

Can be a match up nightmare. Remember OJ Howard?

Yes I do. And he’s 25lbs lighter. In the NFL.

Bennie Cunningham, known in the NFL as “the house that plays TE” was 6’ 6” and 254lb, for reference.

He's not staying at 273. Dude will have to work hard to stay

Aug 1, 2019, 4:50 PM

under 300. I gotta figure he'll be an Offensive Lineman at some point.

That's what happened to Randy Moss' older brother Eric. Went to Ohio State as a tight end and moved to left tackle before getting thrown out of Ohio State.

Not gonna happen, too long and athletic it's TE or it won't work because we have too much talent coming in on the OL to move someone who's never played there. Highly doubt he will have to try too hard to stay under 300 he will trim down now that fall practice is here.

he will not be on the Oline, he does not have the hips for it.

and NO work needed on his build, Once he picks up the scheme he will be a nightmare in the ACC as his ball skills and agility that are unheard of at that size. He is like J Clowney playing receiver.

And Venables described him as the best athlete he has seen in person coming out of HS and he does not mince words. We are blessed to have him on campus.

Dwayne Allen is a couple inches shorter and 260. He caught the ball fine.

Left or right tackle are both positions of greater value in general than TE & fill a more pressing need; as there are few true OTs on the roster.

Do the coots get a group rate if

Aug 1, 2019, 7:34 PM

Will be Clemson’s Gronk.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gotta say, I’m not seeing anywhere close to 273 in this pic

Aug 2, 2019, 12:28 AM

Just did a quick Google search. Don’t know when this was taken but I expected to see a Rendrick Taylor-esque figure for that weight. He doesn’t even look close to 273 in this pic...even if he is 6’6”

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

when i saw him at the scrimmage this past April at that

Aug 2, 2019, 8:55 AM

father son event he was the biggest player on the field regardless of position. He's very big in pads and is one of the youngest guys out there. So he's probably still growing. I"m surprised he's 6-6. I would have thought 6-7 onward to 6-8. He stood next to Sean Pollard on the sideline was bigger than him in stature. Guys a monster.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

6'6" is huge as it is. The guy is built like Lebron...

Aug 2, 2019, 9:29 AM

could you imagine Lebron at TE or DE in the NFL?

I am reminded of a humorous comment made by Coach Red Parker at a IPTAY meeting once. He was describing his line-up and when he got to tackle Lacey Brumley he said he looks like Tarzan, plays Like Jane and smells like Cheeta. It brought the house down.

TE is a very important part of our game and one of the most complicated. I know JL has tremendous potential and the coaches will bring him along at a pace that lets him reach that potential.
