Dabo's team meeting earlier this week reminded me of another similar meeting..

that was conducted by Coach Ibrahim after the 1984 team started the season 2-2 and were 5-3 heading into the last week of September.

I suspect this meeting was the polar opposite of the meeting Dabo and the team held earlier this week. Coach Ibrahim wasn't happy and he made that ABUNDANTLY CLEAR, something he never shied away from doing. After this meeting, we would win 15 of our next 17 games, earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament where we won 5 consecutive games against the number one, two, three, and four seeds (the first time in the history of any NCAA event that a team had beaten the top four teams) enroute to winning the first national championship in men's soccer. It was nothing short of a monumental accomplishment, and I am exceedingly proud and blessed to have been a part of it, including the nut-cutting' we got (and deserved) from Ibrahim at the end of September.

While I don't have any grandiose delusions about the remainder of 2025 football season, hopefully Dabo's meeting produces similar results and the team can have a strong finish to the season.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I've posted before that while serving as Editor of "The Tiger"

from 1967-68, Coach Ibrahim visited me early that year, trying to elicit support for our program.

I knew little about the sport but promised to attend their next practice with our Sports Editor. I knew several players, and they told me they desperately needed student support. I told the S.E. to detail a staffer for coverage, and we promoted the team fairly heavily. Our students responded well, and occasionally when I'd run into Coach I, he was very effusive showing appreciation for our support.

Clemson owes its success in the sport to Coach Ibrahim's efforts.
