Weed must be more addictive than believed.
Mar 18, 2016, 7:33 AM

|
There are way too many stories coming out lately about Clemson, and ex-Clemson athletes being on the weed. Even in the face of lost wages and potentially a lost career, Martavis Bryant continued to do the weed. Players on our current team are getting suspended over it. The threat of suspension or dismissal from the team has always been known, yet they continue to do it. Must be some more highly addictive stuff out there these days, because the stuff we did back in the day certainly wouldn't have been worth risking anything over.
I don't care what the public at large is doing and getting away with, this is not the way I want to see my University represented in the news. Since the suspensions are not working as a deterrent, may be time to start dismissing from the team to prove to the guys that this is flat out not acceptable at Clemson. I don't want to hear any liberal whining about it SHOULD be legalized, the fact is that it currently IS ILLEGAL, and if you are caught doing it, you should expect very bad consequences from a legal, as well as football related standpoint to be the result. Take away the consequences, and the problem will continue to grow.

Considering it's a natural substance, nothing has changed and no it's still not chemically addictive.
It's not like meth where a Heisenberg came along and totally changed the potency of the drug.
These players continue to screw up because they have a self discipline problem, not because they are chemically addicted to marijuana.

Addiction is more than an illicit chemical dependency.

Its why people have issues with gambling, sex, internet, and food. As far as mj, most casual users won't have an issue. Daily users and more frequent users definitely have higher potential to develop a mental dependence on it. How else do you explain such irrational behavior as seen with Bryant?

We should have breathalyzers setup outside of the athletes dorms and if they are underage and want to enter, they gotta blow.
It's illegal to drink under the age of 21 and we don't want a culture of college kids drinking on the weekends during the off season, summer or especially during the season.

when I was at Clemson, I think the fact that the drinking age was legally raised may actually be contributing to consumption of pot, too. Just one illegal substance vs another that the kids choose from now when looking at the two. I personally don't think the legal drinking age should ever have been raised, but it was, so, as long as it is law, that one should be enforced too.

There are physical and psychological symptoms associated with withdrawal and therefore yes, it can be considered addictive.
I'm not sure why anyone would think it's not addictive. Someone who smokes occasionally will likely never experience any withdrawal symptoms. But someone who smokes daily probably will. It's no different than cigarettes or alcohol.

I smoked for pretty much half my life. From HS until I was 35 years old, quit cold turkey 8 yrs ago. I never had any withdraws, it took a few months to stop craving it but I felt fine.

Cravings are a mild form of dependency, either psychological or physical. Like other addictive substances, I'm sure the impact varies.

Wait, read your OP in this thread.
Isn't that exactly what you're doing? You basically dismissed all the research indicating that MJ is, in fact, not addictive....to imply that "YOUR EXPERIENCES" tell you otherwise. I guess the link supporting your opinion was nice, but you literally JUST DID what you were accusing badb of doing.
That's about the sort of consistency I would expect from someone who already had their mind made up.

I'm not sure I understand what's wrong with pointing to evidence that THC is a mind-altering substance that can be abused and can also be addictive? So is caffeine. Why do some folks get up-in-arms over the statement? I think it should be legal and regulated and I don't care if folks want to inhale. Just curious why "it's addictive" upsets some folks.

And I don't want to hear any conservative whining and judgemental generalizations about Clemson sports and society in general. Quit attaching labels about people and their views. Stick to the subject at hand. It is illegal and let the legal system apply and not the personal opinions.

There are cases of both physical and psychological symptoms of withdrawal. It's no different than caffeine. If you drink 2 cups of coffee a day for 20 years and then you quit cold turkey, you may experience some discomfort, physically and/or psychologically.

And talking about blowing it out of proportion. Bryant never got caught with weed or tested positive while here, so what he has done since then has zero to do with Clemson. So all you have is two players getting busted for small amounts of weed during a 4 year period.

Weed today is sometimes mixed with the synthetic blends as well as straight synthetic weed sold which has destroyed and continues to destroy lives daily. It's just now starting to see long term effects that weren't known in the relatively short time it's been out there. You might as well be smoking rat poison. And it is addicting.

with a decriminalization or legalization, it has no place in the market. yes there will always be a black market. however, with some sort of regulation you can eliminate a lot of this.
dabs, that move made famous by players and coaches (including ours) everywhere is a direct result of weed culture.
butane honey oil (ingested through dabbing) is made through an extraction process that removes thc from the plant matter using butane.

Nah, I think he is referring to laced stuff, the dirt stuff; maybe "boat" (embalming fluid), PCP, any crazy thing a person can add for profit edge.
But the butane made stuff is crap, too. Homemade, and posses a health issue.
Professionally made wax, crumble, shatter, whatever the name is different, though.

Speeding is illegal and athletes still get speeding tickets. Maybe speeding is addictive and athletes love speeding more than their sport. Take the weed away and the kids start using harder drugs. It's a fact that Nancy Reagan never wanted you to know about. Knew tons of people who were getting drug tested in college and for jobs and they ended up using hard drugs that I would not touch simply because they leave the system in a couple days instead of 2-4 weeks. They are going to stop testing for it in the NFL, it is just a matter of time. Jake Plummer estimates 50 percent of players use it Medicate even though it is illegal in the NFL.
