Homeimprovement.net: Shutters

Let's say I want to change the color of my wooden shutters.
Which would be the best/easist course of action?
1. Use acetone or other stripping solution to take old paint off, sand, repaint.
2. Just sand and repaint.
3. Screw all that, spray on a layer of kiltz then paint them.
Going from green to black.

Just knock the pollen off with the hose pipe and spray some Krylon flat black on there.
Get your boy to hold a piece of cardboard up over the brick while you’re spraying, should be fine.

I never understood the purpose of nonfunctional shutters.

No way you get new paint on the shutters without doing something on the interior.
New furniture...new paint. Something.

It's ugly. Black shudders and a red door is what we will probably go to.

According to gleaning this thread the shutters are wood which can be a challenge for a variety of reasons. How old are they?

If you paint them on while mounted they'll be OK. I'd suggest you mounting yourself.

daunting task. I re-painted the shutters on my first house almost 40 years. Common sense told me to scrape off any loose paint, wipe down with bleach to kill any mold/fungus, sand, prime, and paint. You don't need to google anything, nor ask the old guy at Lowe's...
Jesus.
