Columbia has always been the armpit of this state. People always said tbat I said that because of my hatred for USC, but it is a dangerous city and always has been. My daughter is currently applying to colleges for next year and USC gives more scholarship money to and accepts more instate kids than Clemson , but we are discouraging her from applying. We have been drawn to some D2 and D3 schools in NC despite the slightly higher tuition. Sad for these victims, but people need to take notice if Columbia SC and the crime!!

I lived in Columbia for over 20 years and worked in downtown Columbia for almost 10 of those years. The area has gotten worse, especially after dark. The Vista area isn’t as bad because they try to keep that somewhat safe for the more upscale shopping and dining there. I’m not just saying this because I’m a Clemson fan, but there is no way I would allow my daughter to go to school there. I even have coot friends that wouldn’t let their daughters go to USUC and live in that area.

raised with God legislated out of their lives, in broken homes, or with little adult supervision at all even if both parents ARE around. They play shooter video games nonstop, and the line between fantasy and reality quickly goes away. They seem to have no regard for human life, or believing that you should have to work for what you get. They think they are owed a handout. I say this for the future, without knowing any specifics of today's event. Just look at the mass shootings that are a near daily occurrence around the country. It's going to get worse before, or IF, it ever gets better again.

God legislated out of their lives? I could have sworn there was something in there about separation of church and state

Nothing to do with liberals, and nothing to do with courts. Separation of church and state was in the constitution. Which "church" do you feel the country should choose as the official religion? Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Catholic? Just curious as to which one you have chosen as the "correct one". I am a Christian, but that is my right to choose and not to force on anyone else. Believe it or not, a large majority of atheists have morals and know right from wrong. It's not something that is copyrighted to just church goers. Heck, some of the worst people I know are ones that hide behind the cloak of going to church on Sunday.

Amen! And I’m sure you believe what you believe non dependent on what your neighbor does. I hear these tiring arguments all the time. Ok for them to legislate their beliefs but bring God into it and the liberals are all about separation. Yawn

His point was that people are incapable of behaving themselves in the absence of God.
It's historical record that "morals" are biblically based. They originate from God, and only God.
The worst people I know don't follow the Ten Commandments. People who don't possess biblical morality are always doomed to self-destruction.
In this particular case "thou shalt not murder" was clearly ignored.

When atheists are applauded, the devil is in the wood pile. Respect everyone's choice but it's the responsibility of Christians to guide them to the light. Plant the seed.

In the constitution. It is in the federalists papers. And it was a phrase by Jefferson (I think) to insure that the government would not interfere with religion not that religion should or can mot influence the government.

Ok.....
What Does the Establishment Clause Protect? The beginning of the First Amendment reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.” This is called the Establishment Clause. Originally, it did two things: it banned a national church and kept the government out of existing state churches. Individuals were protected from a national government imposing a specific set of religious beliefs. The Establishment Clause keeps the government from establishing an official religion or supporting a specific religion.

We both vote I assume and I will vote for folks that match my values system and you can vote to keep the status quo. Seems to be working out great according to where we currently are as a society.
Fact is God has been legislated out and if you cannot see that evidenced in today’s society you may need to remove those scales off your eyes.
The tired excuses of knowing better people that are atheist vs a Christian is as old as time. There are good and bad people everywhere and I do or don’t go to church dependent on what other people do.

So what law exactly was legislated out that relates to religion that would have prevented shootings from occurring?

Interpretation.... No law can favor one religion over another? Myself and a college professor debated this year's ago. That is not seperaration, only that you cannot create a law to favor one denomination. But it's Interpretation.

Only the most ignorant do not realize the seperation of church and state was to prevent the government from dictating a particular religion like jolly old England did with the Catholic church.

I turned onto Assembly one Sunday afternoon coming off I-126

And ran into a literal gang of blocking the entire six lane intersection on 4Wheelers, dirt bikes, and motorcycles. They were flying around and one actually proceeded to lose control and drive into the side of a bank building. One lone cop pulled up while this was ongoing and got out to try and wave them off and I seriously feared for his safety (as well for as my own). This was only a few weeks into the post-Floyd "summer of love" and tensions were already high. It was surreal but sadly par for the course in this awful city.
