in as nice a way that he can that we don’t have the dudes we need for our defense. Speed and length is lacking in the secondary. Depth is lacking. Too many players having to play to many plays that affects our 4th quarter performances. The DL is not getting the push and playing as physical as it needs. I’m beginning to think we built Woods and Parker up too much for their success in their freshman year. Without any doubt we will need to go to the portal big time for our defense. Also, players are making mistakes and not making their reads.

I’ve been saying it’s about the jimmy’s and joes.
Anyone who knows a little about football can tell we lack speed on the defensive side of the ball.
We have recruited good people thinking we could win with anyone. Even if Dabo changes his position on recruiting ,it may take several years to get us out of the cellar.

Not really. You have seen what having a good portal class can do in terms of turning around a program in the matter of a year. Look at Texas Tech for example. They had a really good transfer class and now they are having a really good year to this point. I just don’t think Dabo is willing to rebuild his personnel with the transfer portal, even though that’s what we need at this point.

The portal isn’t changing anyone’s trajectory, sorry, it’s just not. And too, before you mention Indiana, the coach brought most of his team from Richmond with him. He has a good QB and is coaching strong, but he didn’t build that program from the portal per se.
You can count that one year from FSU, even tho team strength depended on Travis. You can cite Indiana if you want, but that’s not truly a case of a team changing their trajectory by use of the portal. It’s the coach bringing his team and having great QB play.
The portal is not doing what a lot of people think it is. Teams are predominantly filling transfers with transfers. Not jumping into the national scene because they’re portal king.
We haven’t any transfers. We haven’t had them going out, so there’s no room for coming in.

overhaul in one year using the portal is not ideal. Unfortunately, that's the position we're in due to basically ignoring it for the past 4 years.
The better question to ask is how teams who haven't sniffed the top 25 in decades are now a fixture there while we fell off a cliff.
The transfer portal and NIL are the reason. We were late to the game in both, which is why we're not where we need to be from a roster standpoint.

The thing is these teams that you mentioned aren't actually A fixture there. A lot of these teams are good for a year or two and then they crash again.
Washington had a good team a couple of years ago with portal players and look where they are now. Florida state had a good team a couple of years ago with portal players and look where they are now.

Roster Management failure.
If you aint gonna use the portal...you better be elite at HS recruiting if you want the chance to stay up with your peers who are doing BOTH well. We are good HS recruiting, not elite. We have not even tried at portal to fill holes until last year....three years too late.
Totally self-inflicted for absolutely no reason. The idea you were right and Saban, Kirby and Day had it wrong is the height of hubris. Better get on with playing the modern game...

I think it's more effort and lack of leadership, there's talent all over the field. Nobody plays with any swag or a chip on their shoulder anymore. Every snap has that "I don't give a $#!T" attitude behind it. Nobody flies around or tying to hype the other guys up....they look like they just clocked in for work and waiting to clock out.

I think the team lacking toughness is due to lack of depth. We have slowly been hemorrhaging players to the portal and compounding this with small recruiting classes. I don't see the practices but I would guess there is concern for injury due to lack of depth so full on hitting and contact drills are kept to a minimum.
Redshirting 3 stars and developing for 4 years isn't working. We need 20+ out of high school and 6-10 out of the portal every year. Transfers will keep us under the max number.

Maybe you haven’t heard - Clemson has had the very best retention in the entire country. Virtually nobody has transferred and we lost one starter ever to the portal.
Teams using the portal are doing so to backfill guys who transferred out. It in no way shape or form guarantees you’re getting better.
Do you even Clemson bro? You are the very first person I’ve ever seen who thinks we are losing guys to the portal.

And why do the 4 and 5 star (and even 3 star) players transfer out of schools? Because they’re not able to beat out the other 4 and 5 star players for starting positions and/or get the playing time they feel they deserve, but they are still high powered players who can play elsewhere. We don’t have guys transferring out because they most likely would remain in portal limbo and not get picked up by school as prominent as Clemson. Players here are staying where they are because they’re not good enough to play elsewhere. They were recruited by Dabo’s School for Boys. Cole Turner ain’t getting playing time in another school. Neither are any of our O line or backup QBs.

We have a defense full of slow , non talented players that can’t succeed at this level . Everyone one sees this except you . I can name 3 off top of my head. Derion Kendrick, Beaux Collins, and Andrew Makuba.
I know kendrick was more or less kicked off team which im fine with, but still wasn't replaced with someone from portal. All of those guys went on to start on teams that made playoffs.
But what hurts just as much is guys off 2 deep that go on to start at other P4 schools. Chez Mellusi, TJ dudley, Joseph Charleston, Mike Jones, Vonta Bentley, Kobe Pace just off top of my head.
It hurts your depth when you replace those guys with high schoolers and fallback recruits versus experienced guys out the portal.

Bro, wake up. We have lost over 20 players to the portal since 2023. Not all were starters but Mukuba, Pride. Williams, Mayes, Ladson, Collins, Hoffler, Dudley etc could have all been starters and some were. If we were getting 25 plus from HS every year maybe we could make that up but it hasn’t happened.
We aren’t immune to losing players and if we don’t get our numbers right then it’s going to get worse.
What worries me most is we get into a situation like FSU where we really have to rely on the portal. we have seen that disaster. It has to be a mix of both.

Great, just great.
Tom Allen had Abdul Freaking Carter as his Superman DE last season at Penn State.
It is a bit of overstatement to equate A.Carter to Lawrence Taylor, but AC was a great athlete with freakish speed.
Sooo … Tom Allen needs players of Abdul Carter’s abilities to be successful as a DC.
Heck, give me a group of DEs and LBs, each with the abilities of Abdul Carter, and I’d be a great DC.
Tom Allen is, in effect, admitting that he doesn’t know how to be a good DC unless he’s coaching Super Freaks.
Dabo cannot fire this bum too soon.
